Hi
The clinker boat currently taking up - see Water take up posting - is also a Buchanan boat. She is a 20ft North East Coast One Design built by John swinburne in South Shields for the foreman of the yard. Called Honey and number 7 - the last one of a short run. When we first bought her we spent some time locating bits of her history and everyone we met spoke of her as though she were an old friend. She had a huge hole in the keel which is now replaced - along with all the rotten keel bolts - nightmare!

Once the intitial take up is finished then it is back out of the water - final coats of varnish and paint - interior fitting out and hopefully sail until the end of the season

Hi,
I have a Buchannan East Anglian, circ 1962. Mahogony on oak, laid teak deck, wooden spars etc. She had been ashore for 11 years. Took about 14 days to take up after full re-caulking of all seams, including deck. Had to pull her out of the water last season when I discovered two seams that had been filled with putty but where I forgot to drive in some cotton , Duh! Leaked like a seive, taking on about 200L of water per day.
Going back in the water next month with the leak fixed - but I do now have a automatic bilge pump so she should look after herself better.

John
