Bubble in compas

... I'm going to ask Suunto for their advice.

"Please be informed that compasses over 10 years old cannot be repaired anymore. If fluid is leaking out, refilling the compass may not be a permanent solution. Mineral oil is used in filling the capsule. We have used liquid known as Isopar M ..."

Isopar M MSDS below, still none the wiser. VIC!

Please don't make the mistake I did, as I mentioned on page 1 of this thread but it seems worth repeating, my Plastimo Contest compass had a bubble for a few months and seemed fine, then when I actually needed the thing in fog it had emptied overnight and was ************ useless !

How long had it been useless before you noticed this in the fog?
I don't think fog causes compasses to empty.

Please be informed that we'd like you to consume products that will inadvertently have shorter life spans as years go by, since spare parts are not being produced or kept in stock. This includes products that have not changed (nor really need to change) over generations, such as sailing compasses...

Seems unlikely, white spirit is Naphtha (petroleum) hydrodesulfurised heavy.

My port compass got a bubble last year, now it is empty :(

I've been told mineral oil or Ethanol, but I'm going to ask Suunto for their advice.

thingy robinson of robinson compass adjusters in hamble has probably seem more compasses than anyone else in the world!

He told me to use white spirit.

I did and it worked.

I done it another twice on different compasses, and that worked too. If that's the "wrong" fluid, I like that kind of wrong.

With a compass like yours that is emptying though, that is the next level of broken. The ones I did were bubble that occurred after extreme weather and were stable in size.
