Bss fail

Why does a boat pass it's Bss examination and then fail, only four years later, on two items? And a few advisories. Same boat, same systems, no alterations.

There were significant changes introduced on 1st January 2013.

Is it correct that in 2017 there will have to be a sticker at the steering position stating which way to turn the wheel to turn the boat to port or starboard?

Before long we will have to have a sticker adjacent the bog roll stating what it is and what the minimum level of sheets allowable. If curry is regularly consumed on the boat this number will have to be increased. Obviously there will have to be a tick box on the form stating the diet of the crew.

Yes, I was making that one up, just taking the pee.

However, marking out the swing of a narrowboat tiller is really taking the pee by the BSS. What will they find next for a sticker requirement? Arrows pointing out which is the sharp end and the blunt end? How about a sticker stating "This Way Up" on the cabin top?

I suppose it gives jobs for the boys with shiny trouser seats.
