Seen this week in a River Thames Society newsletter

Those of you who are boat owners may like to mull over the cloud
on the horizon which is possibly going to come our way from our rulers
in Brussels and Strasbourg.

Proposals are in hand to retrospectively apply emission controls to our
waterways with the possible removal of the right to use our boats without
re-engining.

The RYA is fighting this proposal...................

Is this an old chestnut or something we should be worrying about?

i'm fed up of all this. Can anyone name one really positive thing that the EC has done? Douglas Hurd was cheallenged about his, and burbles that the no. 1 benefit was that we wouldn't go to war with germany or france, which don't think we had had planned to do anyway.

That would probably please the R.T.S. anyways. If they had their way the Thames would be an overgrown reed bed with even the Ducks wearing Nappies.

Better we'd never got involved with those guys over the channel. We'd have been far better off as the 51st State of USA.

Reduced unemployment, all the civil servants applying the regulations, plus all those working out new ones.

Hang on - remember we used to own the place, the whole of North America as well as useful ports like Calais and even Mahon. We British wouldn't have to pay marina charges abroad if we had only hung on to the pink bits.

Ah I think this has been slightly distorted, it will apply when you re-engine in which case you have to prove that the boat complies with the new standards, you can't just use the engine manufacturers figures because it counts as a new instalation.
New boats to the RCD supposidly have already been tested.
Its all hogwash anyway, unless they bring in compulsary boat log books with engine details and a BSS style MOT tests etc.........ugh, we should definately be worried, but at least nobody will be able to agree with each other for a while yet.
