Bruces Yard Faro

G
are these the moorings next to the junction of the creeks just down from Bruces? Is there room to moor there for a night?
S

Best place to anchor is by green 21 buoy and then dinghy from there, I can see about 6 masts there so plenty of room. The moorings area, the other side of a sand bank past red buoy, is a bit tight for more boats anchoring at the moment and you won't know where the banks are until low water.

Thanks for all of the info. What, realistically, is the maximum draught that can get into Bruce's?
There are lots of bigger boats than mine here, a lot of steel ones as well. Do a google on bruces yard, then email them. The daughter Joana will answer quickly. The lift has to be around hi water, at lo there is about a meter left. Tidal range about 3.5m ish?
The lift is e125, the wash e97 and parking e7.31 a day plus vat at 23%
So park for a year about £2650 all inc, plus lifts. In theory I could do a couple of lifts in and out throughout the year in school hols and sail the Algarve and parking would still be cheaper than north wales, certainly cheaper than Pwllheli!

Just glancing at August tide tables, range varies between 1.44m on neaps and 2.87 on springs. Since Bruce has done some dredging, there are no drying areas in the channel but I've never looked at LW depths, only in the dinghy then. Certainly, as Stu says there are some big boats in there, 50+ft and HRs and Amels, both fairly deep keels, come and go without problems.

without problems but with much caution.

Yes and you can walk to shopping centre and city centre as well.

After trying to get a decent steak and chips in Portugal and having been seriously disappointed twice, I realised why they dont deliver. They dont butcher like us, ie they cut the joints differently. They dont eat red meat like us, their supermkt meat counters are seriously small and you can see the meat is cut with the grain rather than across like we do!

As ever eat local, they do great chicken and pork, the butchers counters can be very helpful and you would be amazed at the amount of meat they can sell. If you don't speak at least some Portuguese it can be hit or miss. They can do good lamb but it tends to be expensive but there sheep raising is very very traditional so perhaps not surprising. If you like barbecuing Portugal is great and even the ready made supermarket kebabs are really good, but then almost every one has a barbecue as it is one of the most popular forms of cooking.

Go to a butcher, not supermarket, who sells Brazilian or Angus beef. Had a nice pepper steak here - http://www.portugalio.com/restaurante-chefe-branco/ - 10 mins walk from Bruce's. 13 of us went there for lunch today (SWMBO's birthday) 13 euro each for - starters, various main courses, several jugs of wine, some had sweets, beers etc.

I had the best steak ever in a restaurant in the square in Lexioes, and a very good one in a restaurant in Lagos.

That may have been Fernando's - the best fillet steak I have ever devoured. Cut it with your fork.

I can sympathise with the OP to some extent. IME the quality of pork and chicken in restaurants is better than beef.

Can't wait to get back next month! Cheesed off with paying £6.50 for a pint and a half of basic bitter - even in Norfolk!

Navegador, Rua Da Barroca.3 storey building with great views over the bay.

Me to. See you in the usual watering holes.

£6.50 for 1 1/2 pints? Bit steep even for the UK.

Get a good pint in Clacton for about £2.70 - but that's Clacton.

Cheap & cheerful!
