So as some of you know, I bought a Broom Ocean 38 last year in Mallorca and brought it home to Ireland by sea to Barcelona and truck to Ireland.
The interior designers in Brooms were obviously into flowers, checks and odd colours back in the 90’s. My boat had green carpet, green check upholstery, canopy, boot stripe, galley worktop, etc. Lots of green. Now I don’t mind my countries national colour and I’m a big Irish rugby supporter all my life, but the green had to go.

First job done was carpet. The cushions are removed for recovering

I’m also updating the stereo and lots of electronics. I removed the old Navtex and fitted a Fusion. I designed a black acrylic adapter plate and got my local sign company to CNC cut it.

The old Navtex, the green upholstery also features 😂

The new Fusion RA210 replaces an old 1998 Pioneer tape deck and 6 disc changer mounted inside one of the cupboards

I am using the existing Pioneer Coaxial speakers inside for the moment but I have new Fusion speakers for the back deck.

I did some work with Autocad back when I was in college so I decided to take on a winter project to copy all the dashboard panels into a similar Cad package. I got a monthly subscription to Shapr3d design software for my MacBook.
I used it to design the Fusion adapter plate first and it can extrude items into 3d and allows you to colour the item to see what it will look like.
This is the old faux walnut switch panel looking fairly crusty and sunburnt.

This is the new one in Black Acrylic with new switch tops from Brian awards in Norfolk.
I need to find a way to replace the lettering. I’m not sure if Brother P-Touch labels, white on clear will work but I’ll try it out.

Yes, the dash area needs a good clean and polish. I have ordered replacement toggle switch boots also.

Ref your switch lettering, white on clear Ptouch will kind of do it, but it still looks a little "amateur" (no offence)

As you have the CAD drawing you could easily add the text on there and have a sign company laser etch a panel with all of the text. I've done lots of these for work projects and am now doing some for my Princess 45 refurb. For instance, i want to do way with the old key switches and have push button stop/start, here's the panel i had made:

The panel is bigger than it needed to be for the engine switches, but it covers where an old autopilot and intercom used to be. As it's at the helm, close to the VHF i added the MMSI etc, rather than a big empty space.

Thanks Paul. That looks great. I was thinking of getting the panel made with engraved lettering but I haven’t mastered that in the software yet. I have all my Cad files saved in case I want to replace them or change an item in the future.

Very nice Dino. I love those old Navtex printers and buy any mint examples when I see them for sale. I have a mint one that is going in my new build project. It's a product that stopped being made a decade ago but is still nice to have (as a log printer more than a Navtex machine per se, imho)

@PaulRainbow, it's "Papa" :)

That’s interesting JFM, I thought they were obsolete. I am based inland and only do a few weeks at sea every second year.
I’m replacing the old Raymarine C80 with an Axiom 9 and an RMK-10 controller beside the wheel. Then I’m keeping the old Furuno 1721 Mk2 Radar. It’s a bit ancient looking but it works and I can’t justify the price of a new Quantum radar. The depth sounder was replaced with an i40 so I’ll change the log to match. Only issue is that Raymarine changed the colour of the bezel so I’ve ordered a new silver bezel for the older i40. Then I’m putting a Fusion remote beside the upper helm and the old ST7000 autopilot controller is being swapped out for a smaller ST6002. I’m told it is compatible with the Type 100 course computer.
Finally, the old Shipmate VHF is no longer working so I am fitting an Icom M400BB this weekend. It’s the black boxe unit and less than half the price of the Raymarine black box vhf.
Other jobs include a new set of davits, Flexiteek, new canvas, curtains, etc.

I inherited same Navtex, works well as Navtex but what does it need to be connected to for production of log reports?

You connect a nmea0183 feed from your plotter to pins 5+6, and everything just happens automatically. The thing prints a log every 20 minutes, on a long ticker tape. Lat/log, STW, time, I think. So if all your electronics failed, or the planet's three GPS systems were switched off, you'd know where you were ten minutes or so ago. It's a back up feature you'll surely never use, but it feels good in a geeky way to have it.

The rolls of paper are easily available on eBay or wherever.

Nice to make progress on a refurb and the changes so far are looking good! 👍

The new carpet and upholstery will transform things.

We spent two winters doing our Hardy and I have been meaning to do a write up for some time for the Hardy Owners Club mag. If I get round to it I will post it on here as well.

That is VERY neat and tidy, thanks for sharing 👍

I’ve been taking plenty of inspiration from Aquaholics video of the Haines 400. She’s very similar in layout
That layout on the Haines looks a little strange to me...they gave up a separate guest shower to make a bigger galley, fair enough....but why do they need two dining tables ? (three if you count the upper deck)...personally I would keep the shower because cleaning and drying a wet room is a pain even if only used occasionally. Or, I would keep the present layout and remove the bigger saloon table and bench seating and put some nice furniture there (free standing recliner chairs are my choice)...and put the tv someone it doesn’t twist your neck to watch

That looks well. The toggle switches are all part of the Perkins Sabre wiring loom.
There’s a mixture of different switches.
One button does heat/run, another mutes the engine buzzers, there’s a start button and finally an on/off/stop button, all for each engine.
It’s a very convoluted layout for an ignition system.
I have ordered new boots for the toggles switches to tidy them up.

Looking ace dino! Unless you are particularly fond of the toggle switches, you could opt for push buttons. Super cheap from China. That’s if they all operate just on off.

Sounds it! Perhaps stick with toggles for now 😂

All doable though with momentary, latching and on off on switches. A job for next winter though….if you started it now….something wouldn’t work right just as the sunshine comes out…..as is the law of sod 😂👍
