Broom Continental or Crown

Wow thats impressive. She looked like she was pushing a wall of water.

A friend of ours has a fabulous 37 Continental, but he maintains she almost planes on the wide keel at speeds over 14kt and has a tendency to change direction if pushing up on the keel.

I fitted a pair of D4-225s in a Crown a few years ago, that would do 20 knots, I done long sea trial/delivery and didn't experience any handling issues. Lots of work involved including new steel beds, bigger water inlets, bigger exhausts, bigger fuel lines, the list was endless.

Yeah i had a bit too much tabs on, better with the bow up a bit. Its a bit better in this one..

It does ride and fall off the keel at the top end eg 19-20K but i can live with that, it performs so well up to that speed. Its transformed the boat.

I had a Continental for a few years and loved it. It was bought by a friend who re-powered with a pair of Nanni 200s and it has breathed new life into the boat. More HP and a lot less weight.
We've just bought a 10/70 which had the same Nanni 200 engines installed about 6 years ago and she goes really well. A big investment in what are now old boats but if you plan to keep it forever then why not. Especially when you look at the price of replacing it with a more current boat.

Owner of Jamarc 45ft Bates Star Craft had two HT6.354 rebuilds over a 5 year period by Perkins agent however parts were major issue and in that five year period three holidays spoiled by engine problems.

We did look at using Nanni 200 with ZF 63 but these older boats do not seem to respond well to being fitted with light duty automotive base engines.

Using Aquadrive units we were able to flatten out the installation and retain original Borg Warner 72 CR transmissions together with Cummins 6BT 180 which just went under the boards using special turbo pipework.

Interesting, I owned Carician a 40 ft Bates Starcraft for eleven years and replaced the HT 6.354s with a pair of Volvo TAMD 41s. Even took her over to the Balearics in the early nineties after re engining her..
We knew the second owners of Jamarc very well back in the eighties.
