The wife has become smitten with the Broom 450OS (circa) 2003- and is now trying to convince me that we need to change... again! I know they are well built but wondered what they are like to live with? Sea handling? Cruising speed? Known faults to look out for? I am weary of changing to an older boat but my experience of Brooms is that they are well put together and then cherished by most owners so this might be okay.
We spend a lot of time onboard but don't tend to stray far from base as we have kids and dogs so comfort and safety are priorities.

Current boat is great by the way and I have just finished getting her straight!?

Assuming it has a semi aft fly then more sociable than a full fly boat IMHO. Worth also looking at Westward and Aquastar.

Btw does SWMBO have shares in a brokerage firm ?

There are 3 or 4 for sale at the moment. Planing hull, 20 - 23 knots cruise, 26 - 30 knots max. realistic consumption 0.7 - 0.9 mpg 16 tons light and is capable of dealing with anything you choose to venture out in! Lots of space - helped by 15'3 beam. The most likely replacements / updates would be navionics. Brooms offer good support if needed.
For the last 2 years we have sailed ours from Dover to Guernsey direct (190 miles) to start our summer cruise.

Hi Rob, the 44 and 450 are one of the best boats in there style and class built in my opinion, I've worked on many Brooms, re engined many models over the years including the 44 which the same hull as the 450.

I wouldn't have thought the outdoors deck space enough for your family although the interior accommodation a big plus for you. They are a very easy boat to cruise in as they offer great protection from the raised helm position, if your looking to swap I can steer you in the right direction. Happy hunting.

Thanks Gents
Trevor.. Yes I think SWIMBO is planning an Ancasta rival!
Ebbanflo many thanks - good to hear they like a long trip... Very impressive!
VP I think we are getting serious...You know Pip! Will need to sell Rebel first - any help welcome.
