Never seen so many small electric oil filled radiators, they were everywhere, open a cupboard and there is another one :)

We are going for a sea trial with the owner next week when he comes back from Spain, the mechanic that showed us around the boat has glaucoma and no longer has a licence to drive a boat.

Now looking for a surveyor to get the boat checked properly and a place to get her lifted out to check the underwater parts of the boat, if it was where we are then it would be no problem, there are lifts in Leopoldsburg and at Mol

We are going tomorrow to look at a Continental 37 that is a good bit newer than the one we looked at last Monday, it's not too far from the one you listed above and in the same price range too, so will try and get to that one too.
Boy those old Sailor radios take me back to when I was a trainee and was installing them on fishing boats!
 
The first one we looked at, the engines were good and looked well serviced and clean, they sounded good too and the turbos ran up with a good whine. The first one we looked at today was a Continental and it was a good bit older than what it said in the advert, it was okay but needed a good bit of tidying up internally and externally, however when he ran the engines up they sounded different, on the starboard engine the turbo ran up fine with a good whine, but the port engine, hmm, no whine was heard when running it up plus there was oil and diesel in the bilge. They would have taken Casper in part exchange toom but from us we felt there was about as much work to do in it as in the first boat we looked at.

Then we came to Hunter a Broom Ocean 37 from 1978, we tried phoning the broker but no answer, so as it was only another 30minutes along the road we though we would drop in on spec and have a nosey around, they opened the boat for us and left Mrs Catt and myself to prowl around her, there is still a little water ingress from 2 of the windows that needs addressing - did I mention it was bucketing down and the speeds on the motorway were right down to about 50mph-, so it was a nice test to see where there was water coming in. opening the hatches to the various bilges and they were dry, engines had had a full overhaul recently and the owner was almost finished renovating the boat back to her former glory, sadly he passed away earlier this year and the family are selling her on.

We have seen what he has spent on her in the last year or so and it comes to darn near the asking price!
Now we await the counter offer from the owner.

Great work Alicatt, I had a feeling you would be interested in the good Ocean 37 if you looked at her. The list of work done/money spent was extensive.
That’s the way to buy a boat.

She still needs a few things done, the wipers on the lower helm don't work and two of the windows need seeing to, but will take them all out and reseal them one by one, auto pilot is questionable the owner does not know if it works or not. The deceased owner had spent more than the asking price on the work done to her over the past couple of years, we seen the invoices for that work, so it is the above items and a little cosmetic work with some sandpaper and varnish on the hand rails.

Now awaiting the owner getting back to us about what we offered. there was another looking at her today, but I had already put an offer in yesterday so we will see.

The part that tipped the balance...

Assuming the canopy is in reasonable order you will likely never use the downstairs helm on the boat so the wipers would be low priority in my view.

That was one of the things that I was looking at, it should not be difficult to extend it, there is a rear cover for the canopy but no mountings for any other poles to extend the canopy further back.

On our Casper we have the option to have a full canopy:

It sounds like the right boat and with money spent on it I would be thinking that going to asking price might not be a bad option to reduce the risk of the other interested party whisking it from under your nose.

Not saying it is the case here but there can be a tendency to think that a boat must be bought for under asking price when in reality the asking price can vary from unrealistically high to below what it might achieve given time where the seller just wants rid.

The broker indicated that there was a bit of play in the asking price, and one has to start somewhere, so made a reasonable offer that leaves a little play for us to come up.

The previous boat we looked at the broker offered to take Casper in part exchange, but whether Casper sells today or next year we have the money to buy the boat, only thing I don't want is to have to pay for two berths at the Haven!
 
After a bit of negotiation the seller of the Ocean 37 has accepted our offer.
So here is hoping for a favourable sea trial soon.

Getting her from where she is laying, at Hollands Deep, to our home haven is somewhere between a 4 and 5 days sail, the Waterkart app wants to route us through Antwerp, which is the shortest route, but as we don't have an AIS on board then we have to take the longer route via Tiburg and Eindhoven.
