I need to machine up a new bronze nut for my backstay adjuster assembly, the screw and the rest of the assembly is stainless , can anyone recommend a suitable bronze that is both easily machined and will cope with the conditons .
am I right in thinking a silicon bronze is the type to use?

Yes, Silicon Bronze should be OK. Don't use Mangenese Bronze which is really only a higher quality brass.
