Looking to buy a boat I am disappointed to see the same boat for sale at differents prices one high through a broker and one lower through the owner .What can I do ,whats your opinion. Thanks

If you dont feel the need for the services of the broker, then purchase privatley.

Of offer the owners asking price to the broker.

I have seen this with a few boats recently, not sure how it works. I can only assume the broker charges a higher percentage if he is not the sole selling agent.

I always insert a clause in my contracts that allow the seller to sell privately, although this is quit unusual.

If you employ two separate brokers usually there will be a higher fee. This is because two brokers will be doing the work, but one is guaranteed not to get paid. So the higher fee offsets the risk of making a loss on the deal.

Better to find brokers who have working relationships with others, so you get the usual fee but more exposure.

If you allow the owner to sale his boat privately do you ask him to do at the same price you advertise the boat

Of course. Overpricing is a waste of time.
If the seller thinks the boat is worth less than my valuation and is happy to sell at a lower price there would be no point me trying to sell it for more.

I have never been in that situation though, but I have had it the other way around. Seller was sure the boat was worth more so marketed the boat at a higher price, convinced he would sell it in a matter of days. He didn't and I sold the boat for the recommended price.

It maybe the seller of the boat you are interested in has been having no interest so has ditched the broker and is trying to sell at a lower price. The market is quite tough at the moment.

Do you have a link to the two ad's? What is the price difference?

Be interested to see the links. Don't think there's any reason to be disappointed though...
