Pro's & Con's, for a down channel pit stop.
Definitely Brixham, but why not go another 7 miles on to Dartmouth? Much prettier and far more choices for just about everything. They are both a bit scruffy and expensive to stay, unless you use the Brixham YC pontoon. One saving grace is a walk round Berry head fort, where elfnsafety have not be heard of. There are nesting shearwaters on the head, sometimes Mediterranean ones.

7 miles equals 1 hour pub time.
Brixham every time. It is a reversal of the 1970's position. In the 70's Torquay was the posh end of Tor Bay and that is reflected by the housing stock. Brixham on the other hand was a tatty fishing port with only three restaurants that all closed by 9pm in the summer. Things have changed. Brixham as become a bit like Cobham on Sea. Lots of really smart shops.
The main problem with Brixham is getting in, they have a real shortage of 12m berths and few visitors berths so you are always trying to get a residents berth. Torquay on the other hand has masses of empty berths so you can always find space but do you want to go there? Torquay is a shadow of its former self, the council have wrung their hands and allowed the town to deteriorate and it is now a stag weekend favourite. Yuk.
and the rest! I plan on 5.5 knots.
