Brixham v Torquay?

Brixham every time. It is a reversal of the 1970's position. In the 70's Torquay was the posh end of Tor Bay and that is reflected by the housing stock. Brixham on the other hand was a tatty fishing port with only three restaurants that all closed by 9pm in the summer. Things have changed. Brixham as become a bit like Cobham on Sea. Lots of really smart shops.

The main problem with Brixham is getting in, they have a real shortage of 12m berths and few visitors berths so you are always trying to get a residents berth. Torquay on the other hand has masses of empty berths so you can always find space but do you want to go there? Torquay is a shadow of its former self, the council have wrung their hands and allowed the town to deteriorate and it is now a stag weekend favourite. Yuk.

They are both a bit scruffy and expensive to stay, unless you use the Brixham YC pontoon. One saving grace is a walk round Berry head fort, where elfnsafety have not be heard of. There are nesting shearwaters on the head, sometimes Mediterranean ones.

Definitely Brixham, but why not go another 7 miles on to Dartmouth? Much prettier and far more choices for just about everything.

Generally do that, but if it's a beat in a dying breeze and the tide is building Eastgoing, Brixham is a nice option.
Carry on to Dartmouth next day.
Torquay is a longway off the rhumb line. And mostly just a typical medium sized town centre full of chain stores.

Brixham has "lots of really smart shops " ??? Where are these ?? I can't think of any "really" nice shops . Brixham is still a nice place though .......had a contract berth with MDL there .

Brixham every time. Nice town and some lovely walks. Town pontoons (with power) alongside MDL ones (without power) at a fraction of the cost. ..

If you go to Brixham then I recommend you pop around to Churston Cove, just west of Brixham, where you can drop your hook and if the weather is good, almost think you are in a tropical cove. Stunning
