I am surprised that a fishing boat managed to hole this vessel sufficiently for it to turn turtle in the Channel. Any more details on what happened?

Thanks but my question was how a relatively small fishing boat could hole a large vessel-so far not explored or clarified?

Looking at the damage to the FV, it seems that the bow overrode the deck of Britannica and then collapsed the trestles , causing the deck cargo to slide and unbalance the ship. The FV bulbous bow looks to have punched ahole in the side of the cargo's hull, and free surface effect flooding took care of the rest.

The AIS track of the FV is pretty damning !

Interesting turn to port by Britannica at 26 secs into AIS video. I have no way of knowing how long this was before the collision, does anyone here know? Had she not made that course alteration the two vessels would not have collided.

I do not know how you can make that assumption as presumably the turn by Brittannica was a last second attempt to avoid the collision!

FV Deborah has previous in Milford Haven, skipper ( at that time ) fined approx £2500 for very similar port quarter ramming a few years ago
