British TV By Satellite In Southern Spain

You are right, having looked at the 5 channels we can no longer get them although we were last week. I just thought it was an aliment problem. Strangely enough BBC and ITV seems to get better reception now although it may be we are more stable where we are. Still using a 60cm dish though.

This is going to put a lot of satellite installers out of business on the Costas...
Doesn't it open up new opportunities to install an on-site extra-large dish and sell the feed (somehow) to subscribers?

Or, like my cable company, charge extra for multiple bundled digital channels, including all the UK ones. Which, incidentally, is one reason the content suppliers are so eager to re-focus the spot beam more tightly on the British Isles to stop reception on the continent where they can charge - via the encrypted PE (Pan European) transmissions. The alternative suppliers do not appreciate potential customers having direct, free access.

However, many of the UK-sourced signals on my UPC Cablecom supply are so distorted that I resort to my 60cm satellite FTA system where they are still a perfect reception. [Reminder to self - another complaint to Cablecom].

All the UK suppliers love the whole principle of satellite distribution, mainly because it is so much cheaper than terrestrial, especially to those hard-to-reach locations such as the Scottish highlands. And the pesky spill-over on the continent is slowly being closed down by more refined focussing technology.

I suspect that the expat population is so large, and bars so dependent on sport tv, that someone will eventually come up with the supply solution, even if the worst ddoes happen. I haven´t the faintest idea how, but it´s an obvious money maker.

There is a simple solution as the encrypted PE feed on the same satellites but with a larger footprint carries the same channels but only for subscribers. There may be restrictions on who may qualify due to contractual arrangements with distribution networks.

Here is the predicted Astra 2 F/E (PE) family one.

I pay for a full sky package, but if its just going to get worse, then might as well forget it, I only watch the sport and discovery most of the time anyway, cant usePC for TV, just too slow, so back to plan one, DVD's. No worries, have to watch football at the pub!

Have you thought about a Nova satellite package, all the prem and sports you could wish for, but on the hotbird sat, so no problems with footprint etc.

Sky is working ok in Greece, if you pay for a package you will still get it! It is simply encrypted for sky customers. Sky needs cash, it knows that people have obtained cards that are being used all over europe, but turns a blind eye, and trousers the cash. There are thousands of expats paying for a sky service, if sky pulled the plug they would risk losing a fair old wedge of cash.
Regarding sport, eurosport 1 and 2 can be got free from hotbird 13e this is the easiest sat to find, a blind man with a divining rod could find it!
I think we need to wait a little while to see what happens before rushing out and replacing dishes.

It doesnt work with a 1.4 dish! Pity, I get most things, but not BBC or ITV.

ITV and BBC are not part of a sky package, they are free to air, we have lost them as well, we still get ch4, pick tv, motors uk, sky news, cbs men, movies plus a pile of useless rubish that only Billy no mates watch. in the mean time, Filmon works well and its free.

ITV used to be available through the other channels option on the sky box, as some of the area channels were on a separate higher frequency,

Try pressing services, scoll down to no 4 system set up, press ok then no 4 add channels,
in frequency put 10758
Polarisation, V
Symbol Rate, 22
FEC, 5/6

Scroll down to find channels, press ok, if you can get any regional variations they will show up.
For better details see here, http://www.wildsat.com/astra.htm
You can also see whats available on the Eutelsat at 28e as well.

You can buy a years subscription over the counter, all you will need then is a friendly sat man to tune in a dish, alternately if you have a home phone then OTE do the sat as well, more or less the same channels.
