Britain By Boat - Tonight Channel 5 20:00- East Coast Episode

Absolutely dire a good opportunity missed. Even if you know nothing about boats it was not at all entertaining or engaging.

it looked like they had a couple days sailing with plenty of footage then edited it together, there were some real howlers on the continuity front.

Passge from Bradwell to Ramsgate showed a cartooned track going up the coast towards Harwich and ‘outside’ but immediately cut to them crossing the Spitway.

That is an hour of my life I won’t get back!

There was also a shot supposedly in Bradwell, but the shot included a cliff with houses on top. I am pretty sure Bradwell is nowhere any cliffs.

Indeed a few continuity issues.

Also, what was this bit about the busy route out of Felixstowe. They were going from Bradwell to Ramsgate. If they were worried about Felixstowe traffic, they really have a navigation problem.

I baled out after 30 mins would have been sooner but missus wanted to give it a chance. It was absolutely pathetic.

I think I have just had my fill of ‘this is a good wheeze let’s get a couple of celebrities to have a bit of fun while 3 million idiots watch the vacuous goings on and we sell a shed load of advertising’.

Well I enjoyed it-!

I thought it was funny with all the nonsensical drama - and it was particularly enjoyable that even the non east coast or sailors in the room could see what nonsense it was! We laughed a lot! Great to see boats and leisure sailing on telly and fun to spot places you know and to be able to spot the crap. I’ll probsbly enjoy it much less when they get to places I know nothing about (nearly everywhere else)

I'd like to watch it despite the reviews! How do you do catch-up on Ch5? My smart telly gets me to My5 but it only seems to offer a limited number of progs, not including this one.

(Edit.....found I can watch it directly on my computer.)

I wouldn't bother.
That was by far the worst programme involving sailing and the East Coast that I have ever seen. Apart from the yacht, about which we were given no info, there was nothing worth watching. The continuity was dire, there was a clip of Ramsgate in the Bradwell footage and when they eventually did arrive in Ramsgate the filming of the entrance looked as if it had been shot on a phone...
The production team and the so-called celebrities should be ashamed of themselves... won't be watching any more of that rubbish.

A handsome vessel but it looks so uncomfortable both in the 'cockpit' and the cabin.A few curves would have gone a long way.

There’s more information here, Jan. You can even put in an offer if you wish. Careful though, it has a Beta 50hp that can only be fixed in Brightlingsea, allegedly

Played the recording of the Bradwell marina bit to see my boat, with the wife operating the remote on stop go constantly-- Drat !!! the berth was empty so I must have been off sailing.

Cannot understand why they had to sail about reefed all the time. Perhaps the boat is just so badly balanced that they cannot use full main.

Oooh it's Ashley Butley is it. He's done well for himself. A few years ago he started out building sort-of replica smacks in a shed in the woods near Faversham.

It’s repeated on Channel 5 next Thursday morning (29 Nov) at 3.10am.

100% assessment Jan. And the point about the reefing, and the passage planning and the.... Oh it's all been said.

I was about to send two complimentary copies of 'Crossing the Thames Estuary' to those two failed comedians aka grossly inaccurate journalists. But I realised this programme is designed for snowflakes not for people like us.

I would have thought that a qualified skipper in charge of a boat with a Beta would have naturally included full engineering skills. :p

Michael Buerk et al travel round the U.K. in a 50ft yacht.

First of a new series.

This episode covers Suffolk, to Ramsgate, including Bradwell and West Mersea.

Might be worth watching on these cold dark nights.

Can’t see why they didn’t give the job to Dylan Winter.

Wasn't Michael Buerk a contributor to this forum about 15 years ago?

I loved the bit where they thought it was time to shake out the reef when the speed had dropped to 1.5knts :)

And I hope the VHF conversation they had with the "professional" skipper "declaring an emergency" was fake

A beautiful boat and worth watching IMHO for that and the sailing scenery. Didn't particularly enjoy the "dialogue" - perhaps better watched with the volume turned dowm

Well I watched on a 'catch up' channel, so had read some comments on here prior to viewing it; as I understood it the two main Ejits went by car from the original starting point down to essex somewhere to rejoin the Boat, when the engine was repaired, but it was not repaired so they 'put in' for the repairs, again; oh well suppose it was the best of the 'footage' that was available; great pity that they did not show the Car that they travelled in, might have been interesting at least; the Rib that keept being 'in and out' of shot I assume was the Camera Boat plus others essential to the Production, pity that the Production Crew did not ensure that the Rib was out of shots, its rather like a Fella /Woman climbing a mountain on camaera and claiming to be the first up there, when a previous shot clearly shows the climber from a point above them taken by a Camera person, so they were there first, ah well, I blame it on the plethera of Colleges and Uni that run Media Production courses of sorts, yes ill not be viewing that prog again, urg
