Britain by Boat CH5

Been looking forward to this all week but I was not really impressed. Too much faffing around, and as for the 'overheating engine', first he was going to Anchor in the harbour entrance, then somewhere else, and then they wer alongside! Never did say what the engine problem was. Can't wait for next week's exciting adventure, which I think might be the 'Round the Island' race around the IOW.;)

A 'one gag' show which I found rather short on real content...especially the sailing part. Nice boat though, with a serious looking bowsprit.
Will try again next week.

Does anyone know when it was filmed? We sailed Grimsby to Burnham on Crouch and back this summer. Lovely boat. Some nice photography. But on the whole about as interesting as watching varnish dry. Don't know why the bother with the two clueless celebrity passengers. Should have just gone filmed Mungo and Stella handling the boat expertly with no drama and shown the lovely scenery. Best thing to do is to watch it on My5 and fast forward over the boring bits about the passengers going to the pub or scoffing molluscs

Although it may not have seemed like it from the programme, Michael Buerk is an experienced sailor who's had a yacht in the Med for 25yrs + and John Sergeant is no stranger to sailing. Maybe they overplayed the naivety card for the sake of the programme's need to create some jeopardy.

I'll agree that is not particularly riveting viewing, but I'm more than happy to watch some nice sailing footage on a cold and dark November evening.

Watched it earlier too. Couldn’t help but think they might have left the seacock closed.
The skipper didn’t look to amused by their fondness for a drink, I thought.
Hopefully they make it to the west coast of Scotland at some point.

What a stunning boat

It was amusing to hear all the comments about how calm the skipper remained while the engine was overheating. I guess that is what happens when you have your large support rib tied alongside...

After Grimsby Burnham on Crouch must have seemed like paradise - even though it is up a ditch!!

It was a coast hopping trip Grimsby, Wells, Lowestoft, Southwald, RIver Deben, Rivers Orwell and Stour, Brightlingsea, Burnham then back (dodging named storms in September). Grimsby, Humber Cruising Association is a great place to keep the boat, friendly safe and economical, but we usually head north or across the North Sea so this was the first time we had been south along the east Coast beyond Lowestoft and there are some really beautiful little harbours on the rivers, quite with loads of wildlife. We were going to go closer to London as we had family to visit there, but thought we had already seen the best bits and went in by train. Granted it was not interesting as going North. Last year we were watching Minke Whales off Whitby first week of September, but it was a really enjoyable trip and the great thing is the harbours are closely spaced which is good for short handed or less strong crews. Wells was not available to us on the way back, as the strong winds meant there was not enough water to get in, so it was a long haul Lowestoft back to Grimsby.

I have a Beta 50 like them and it was new in this summer. ironically I got overheating alarm coming out of Lowestoft too. It was down to hose clamps on new hoses working loose and loss of coolant. I don't expect that was their problem as according to the brokerage sites it looks like the engine was new with the boat. Also they said they were waiting for a part. So most likely just an impeller kit.
