Coast guard report on GB registered boat that sank off Kefalonia on Monday The Port Authority of Kefallinia was informed last night by the Joint Search and Rescue Coordination Center of the Coast Guard – Hellenic Coast Guard for the inflow of water on the sailing vessel “PANACEA OF SOUTHAMPTON” flag of Great Britain. west of the prefecture of Kefallinia. Three (03) floating ships and a patrol boat LS-EL.AKT. Went to the area, while the occupant of the boat initially boarded a rescue raft and then was located by another ship and transferred to it, in good health. The man was then transported from the additional ship and accompanied by the patrol boat LS-EL.AKT. in Kefalonia where he disembarked safely and was received by an ambulance of EKAB as a precaution at the General Hospital of Kefallinia. A preliminary investigation is being carried out by the Kefallinia Port Authority, while the sailing boat sank completely.

Difficult to say as it does not give exact position, but there is over 3000 meters out there!

We lost a Tornado F3 in that region a few years back and had to rely on USN submersibles.

On Thursday 20th May we spotted a life raft west of Kefalonia. Sea was already 3 in that moment. As ist was partially deflated, we were not 100% sure it‘s abandoned. Gave a DSC call to Olympia Radio and got instructions to stay on site and keep looking for debris. After 2 hrs. in conditions getting worse (were not able to retrieve it, there were lines loose and there was danger of eating one and getting in a legerwall situation), the raft hit the cliffs and we got the permission from Olympia Radio to proceed on our course.

Maybe the owner of the „Panacea of Southampton“ reads this and can give us information that this was his raft.
