Just returned from a site visit to North Wales 220ml. round trip. Whilst stationary in traffic at Chester thouroughly NOT enjoying the prospect of yet another 3hrs return journey it dawned on me that I could have flown to any number of sunnier climes ie. Spain - SOF etc. in this time. Also it normally takes 1 hr exactly from front door to boat however make the mistake of setting back at the wrong time and you can double that at least.
There is no real point to this post other than just a moan and another reason to justify to the Mrs. that taking the boat to the SOF really is a good idea.
In short I am sick to death of British roads. (yeah I know some of you are going to post with "you want to try driving in *******" replys but it does not help me)
Yours-I never want to drive again Ian

Re: SofF roads!

um if you do take thye boat, make sure you don't take the car. the south of france is a blimmin nightmare at this time of year - 3 hours won't get you to st tropez by car, for example, which is 30 miles by sea about 50 by land.

Ooo that naughty old traffic.

Think two approaches to this, moan lots and blame everyone else for not doing nuffick about solving the traffic problem.......or....or ........or bit radical this,do something about it .
All my mates (of which I have loads and loads)whinge like hell about the time taken to get anywhere here in the south. Will they do anything about it ........NO.......Like ferinstance...... move something.
Their boat their house their job.......Fat chance.
Moan moan moan./forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
My business opens after the morning rush and shuts before it.The boat is just round the corner not half way across the known universe in the erm...Solent/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

I think its not just brit traffic. Its just taken me 90mins to get from San Francisco to Santa Clara down 101 - a distance of about 35miles. Very slow going, and the dang car pool lane finishes at 9am, so I didn't even get the benefit of the passenger I was carrying today.

At least its warm-ish here.

You will just have to get a motorbike, then you will be able to predict with reasonable accuracy how long a journey will take,
besides you will arrrive with a grin on your face /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

works for me!

Be like me - don't moan about it, do something about it! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I've spent the past 15 years driving 40,000 miles a year all over the country and have got a little bored with it. Instead of keep complaining I've jacked the job in, sold the house, bought one on the Isle of Wight and set up a business there!

My house (solicitors and estate agents willing!) overlooks fields, my boat will be less than 5 miles away and my offices are now on a farm with a total commute time of 10 minutes.

Of course I'm still going to have to go to London a couple of times a week but with careful management I will keep it to a minmum and spend as much time as poss on the boat!

Well, that's the plan anyway, let's see if it works! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Rick - you with HP?
But Brit traffic is b----y awful and would really get me down if I had to come back to live/work there. Great place to visit!
By comparison, Atlanta/Sarasota, 540 mi in 8.5hr including stops for food, 40 winks etc. Never have a hold-up of any consequence.

That's coz nobody lives between Atlanta and Sarasota!

Try the same journey round LA, New York, Washington, Chicago etc, etc and multiply hours by 10! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
