Pick up from Mathern Church by Gary at 6am (didnt know it still existed) on the boat at 6.45 ,swing bridge opened for us at 6.50. Into Cumberland to wait locking out at 7.30. On time we motored into the avon under the Bridge on a sunny morning, ideal transit weather. Gary proud of his new aquisition with Beta 20hp just serviced, we motored against the tide making 3knots over the ground , should make it into the Severn to catch the last of the tide to take us up the Shoots. Yachts making their way up with the tide must have thought we were the navy as we were laying a smoke screen! Apologies to the passing yachts, but we were committed.HW at Beachley was 10.22.We emerged from the Avon at 9.30. Speed over the ground boosted to 8knots got us into the Pill at 10. 35. Considering the engine had just been Serviced! and we could only get 1100 rpm and a lot of white smoke we suspect the oil change was too generous. It never missed a beat so think it is a minor problem. Gary was still high on his adrenalin rush an hour afrter mooring up, grateful that the Shoots were flat calm and no Whirl Pools in sight. Due to a senior moment, no pics, because forgot to pack the camera. Thanks to Peter and Hugh for getting up early to assist our newest member to the Club.Boat name Tamara Lee a 24ft Husky. You will know her if Gary cannot sort the smoke problem.
