The 1st weekend of August, a brilliant weekend, especially if the weather's nice.
Fri 1st Aug is the 1st day and it ends Sun evening.
Priority is given to boats that have attended before, but they do have a "waiting" list, get on it and come along!
Even if you don't get an "official" festival mooring you can still moor elsewhere in the docks so "come on down" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

In the past I have just turned up unbooked paid harbour dues and moored at baltic wharf .Its a bit quieter there if you plan on any sleep and only a 10 minute walk into the center.

Hopefully will be there this year so will be out burgee spotting. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Take your insurance policy or you have to pay for insurance for the length of your stay.

used to go every byear in the early days when there was a free rock concert and most attendees were sailing boats. but the last time I went it seemed to have been taken over by ditch crawlers and speedboats, and the freebies had gone. instead the council seemed to want to make money out of the boats rather than the tourists who had come to see the boats.

what is it like now? is it a festival of bristol channel sail?

In fairness the Canal boats have allways attended in big numbers including some that come out at Sharpness and transit the Severn down to Portishead then on up to bristol via the Avon.Personally I dont mind who turns up or in what boat.

I dont know when the reggatta first started,we have been going when possible since the 80s seems to get bigger all the time.Huge amount of change to the docks areas in that time .Wether all the development is an improvement depends on your point of view.

The fireworks are usually impressive.

The best we saw was the year that they had a gymnast in the dark just before the fireworks, hanging from a black ballon towed by a blacked out boat .She was illuminated and unless you looked really hard appeared to be dancing on air a hundred feet up accompanied by a Sax player simillarilly suspended. Magical.

I dont think its a festival of sail as its open to any boat.Just a Harbour festival I guess. Bristol people I know tend to be proud of their maritime history.
