Escooters do not have hundreds of horsepower on tap. Some Pwc's have up to 300hp, that is a lot in anyones book.

As for training, The very nature of the things & the type of people that buy them means very few bother with training.
The ones that cause the trouble are young meat heads often fueled to the eyeballs on booze & charlie.
How do you propose to train them?
If they're on booze & charlie a cattleprod and some pepper spray would be advisable.

Section 5.34 in the document is suggesting further legislation for alcohol and drug users … now I’m sure nobody would advocate drinking and operating marine craft. However we probably wouldn’t want to find that the extra glass of wine while at anchor in a quiet mooring is now illegal.

Illegal or not, impaired by alcohol is an exclusion in my insurance.

I wonder what percentage of the current crop of PWC users have insurance.

Over here (Portugal) insurance is mandatory as is licensing and registration but they still drive PWCs like lunatics. Doubt the proposed change to UK regs will make any difference to behaviour but will enable prosecution in a minority of cases where no harbour regs.

I’m not liking this thread. As far as I can see the folks that enjoy jet skis are just enjoying their recreation

We've had a few come through moornigs at full chat and deliberately swerving near moored yachts to soak people sat in the cockpit.

I’m not saying that doesn’t happen occasionally. But the vast majority are just normal folks enjoying their hobby. … reading this thread you would think all jet skiers are lunatics high on something. That just isn’t the case

Although many motorists wouldn't agree, the majority of bikers are just normal sensible drivers but there's law in place to deal with the minority of idiots whereas, depending on the circumstances, there's no law to prosecute the minority of idiots on jet skis who like to show off as close to swimmers and other water users as possible. That needs rectifying.

[Controversial]

As are, dare I say it, push bikers. It's always the minority of idiots who give the decent ones a bad name.
[/Controversial]
Why "controversial"? In any facet of human interaction there is always a small percentage of idiots and unfortunately their impact is much more noticeable than the sensible majority's. However, I'm not sure I accept your implication that all push bikers are idiots

Unfortunately it is the vocal minority ( The Irresponible idots) that get noticed, the silent sensible majority are painted with the colours of the former.

I'm saying the exact opposite of "all push bikers are idiots". I've met a few that are, but I've met many more that aren't. I tend not to notice the latter, other than to make sure I pass them in a safe place and at a safe distance.

The "controversial" was an attempt at humour; one or two people here hate them and are very vocal about how they are all a danger to themselves and everyone else on the road.

"It's always the minority of idiots who give the decent ones a bad name. " You may have meant something different but it is what you wrote. I do hope you are incorrect and that no-one here is imbecilic enough to hate anyone for choosing to ride a bicycle and I can see no humour in such stupidity.

It would be setting a dangerous precedent. You start with that and then it will be extended to other motor boats and then to all boats.

Once the data base is in place it can then be used to tax.

Yes. Mission creep, which will affect all of us and really wont be worth the agravation just to satisfy our desire to control a few idiots. It wont even work because the idiots will still be idiots.
