It's all change at Brightlingsea marina
although, once berthed and paid, everything remains the same.

Having visited last week and tried to raise 'Waterside Marina' on CH80 we got no reply
Working my way through the list of phone numbers I got a reply telling me that
the marina is now managed by Brightlingsea Harbour - they took it over in the last month.

So I called again on CH68.
As ever, the harbourmasters were extremely helpful, escorting us to our berth and helping with the shore lines.
The charges have also changed. They do not match the old published rate on the notice board in the marina nor do they match the charges on the new marina web site - it was later explained that the charges on the web site are for the West basin (which, I believe, is also the price for the outer pontoons).

I suspect that all visitors will go to the East basin where the charges are now :-
24' - 29' £20
30' - 42' £25
43' - 49' £30
This includes electricity and WiFi (but the WiFi got broken somewhere in the handover).

Once berthed and paid we found everything very familiar. All the codes are the same as last year.
Even the marina office is still there - but don't go in.... they just manage the housing from there now.

Re: dredged depth. We dipped our 2.0m keel into a little of the soft mud as the tide went out but it was so soft that it was hard to notice.
The bottom is not perfectly flat. I suspect we could have moved along the pontoon to find a hole for the keel.

Many thanks for the update. I ususlly only use the waterside marina during the winter months when there is reduced hours for the water taxi to the creek pontoons but good to have the option of walkashore.

With a 1.7m keel what do you estimate the access to be +/_ HW?

The marina sill is 1m over datum
The tide gauge at the marina (binoculars needed) is calibrated to show the depth over the sill.

The tide gauge at the green post at Brightlingsea spit is also accurate for the current height of tide.
So, it you see 2.7m or more on that gauge then, on a rising tide and by the time you get there, there should be enough water to get into the marina.
and, to answer your question
That looks to be half tide onwards.

That's good to hear. It's about the same access times as last year.
A good heads-up, this one. We did know about it but somehow had forgotten to mark up the update for ECP. Will be done shortly....:nonchalance:

It's pretty much dead quiet around there at night, unless the wine bar has music on which they do occasionally. The yoof aren't really interested in the waterside part of town.

Thanks. Will give it a try.
