You need to choose your tidal windows, also you don't mention what your passage planning speed is? We tried to get to the Solent last year from Mersea, and got as far as Eastbourne. The last part of the Dover Eastbourne leg was 'orrible, wind over tide worse than the Wallet, and we needed about 35 of our 45 hp to get us in...

Had a catamaran delivered about 10 yrs ago, same journey, took two days, they just motored it all the way with a big tank of petrol.
