Bridges over troubled waters.

I once went under the Zeelandbruge when the electronic indicator was showing 15.6 m clearance. Mr air draft is 14.5m. I would never do it again - it was beyond scary.
Ditto, except I had miscalculated air height and VHF aerial was bent to about 70 degrees as we “rattled” under! Just a feeling of relief that we had not wiped out the masthead gear or worse. Could have been a very dangerous mistake.

When the bridge is being built I expect the clearance will be less than 18metres and certainly wont open, so that will be 6 months or so to build the central section when the clearance will be a fair bit lower. What are the chances this will be in the winter?

According to the National Oceanagraphic Centre HAT Ipswich is 4.88m. It's based on Harwich's which is 4.51m.

I have been asked to join a focus group for the crossings. I'll report back.

Why would they build a lifting section in situ?

These chaps will struggle with the new bridge.
