Anyone been there? Looking to drop of a yacht there on a passage north starting from Gib next week, so around 8 or 10 days later, thinking of there.

Will be for the owner and family to pick up later for onward passage to Denmark.

Is it a safe place to leave the boat for a while? Good shelter? Any advice gratefully received, been a looong time since I stopped once at Camaret.

Thanks in advance :encouragement:

Brest

Is fine, laid back, plenty of space and round the corner enough to be secure from weather issues from seaward.

Marina du Chateau has good facilities and is close to the railway station, 5 minutes by bus, 20 on foot. TGV to Paris

Thanks, both. Just spoken to the owner, he is excited about the place. Perfect fit.

So flight booked to Malaga on Sunday, lift arranged, will be under way and making way by midday Monday. :encouragement:

I can endorse that. Several visits over several years. I took a friend and his Rival 34 in there, leaving him to cruise with his 'maitresse'. They left the boat there some 6 months, then had me go collect it. Everything on board was 'tickety-boo'. The staff seem to try harder than the bigger place around the corner to the east....

The approach from the west is easy, through the Gulet de Brest - which has one well-marked reef in the centre, with plenty of deep water both sides. Should the stream be ebbing when you arrive, one can work the back eddies along the north side. There are anchorages in the several bays there.

The marina itself is well-protected and easy to enter, even under sail only, as will be seen from this Google Maps/Satellite view.

Should Brest be bypassed for some tenuous reason, your next best option is the nearly-new marina at Roscoff..... or even better if leaving the boat for a while, Morlaix nearby.

Thats a great help, will screenshot that on my ipad. The owner will be booking us in when Im leaving the Finnisterre area and get a better ETA.

Looks like thursday night is gonna be a pit stop, bit bumpy round there.

Off to airport very shortly, every journey begins with a security check...... :)

The visitor pontoon is on that long finger to the south, and it's opposite to the north, alongside rafting mainly.

The layout has changed slightly and there are now additional finger berths for visitors at the root of that long finger. This would be your best bet for leaving the boat unattended. Failing that I have no doubt the marina would sort you out an alternative secure berth.

It looks like you'll earn your crust, with headwinds forecast ( windy.ty ) just about the whole way., once past Sagres. Best o'British....

Yup got that right! Been against us all the way so far. Have pit stopped in Nazare to let the wind calm down a bit. Off at early doors saturday. Looking good for Biscay monday. An unexpected stop enjoying clearing skies and a jar!

Echo all the good stuff about Marina Chateau but just be aware there is a sign at the office asking you to phone Douane and check in. Never done this anywhere else in France so ignored it but next day was visited by 4 blokes in black with guns. They spent a lot of time calling marinas to verify our log. Next time I go there I shall definitely call the number to check in.

Yup, we were checked there in June by the Douanes, three of them. Not only did they check our paperwork, but they did their round inside and opened all the lockers they saw. They did miss a lot of stowage though ?
