United Kingdom, inland and coastal waters, English Channel, Brest Elbe limit.

Well thats what the insurance policy currently says for the boat.

But what does it actually mean ? and how far into South Brittany can I go.

I will be away on the boat next week cruising from the solent to initally Brest area but fancy going a bit further south, this year. do you tell the insurance company and they slap the premium up for the period or not say anything or will they extend the policy for the period FOC.

I currently insure with GJW Direct.

TIA

I've always told my insurance company (Nav & Gen) when I've wanted to go outside the stated geographical limits. Never been a problem. "Just for your holiday, sir? That'll be OK. If you need to extend the period, just give us a call" Never been asked for additional premium either

In the past I've found them happy to extend the cover at no extra cost, but with an increased excess for Biscay (and also for Norway and Scandinavia). Seems fair enough to me and it's easy to organise.

I wouldn't go without informing them - at risk of stating the obvious you'll be uninsured if you have an incident outside the geographical limit of cover.

I'm with GJW and they are quite happy to extend insurance to further afield. Spent 6 months in the Baltic and was not a problem. No extra cost.

CraftInsure give Territorial Scope:

Ashore or afloat on inland and coastal waters of the United Kingdom, Eire, and Continent of Europe, Brest to the river Elbe,
including inland continental waterways North of 40° 30' North, and West of 10° East. During the period 1st May to 30th
September this area is extended from Bordeaux to Stavanger, including the
Baltic not North or East of Stockholm.

".....all they charged was £25.00"

What's the justification for charging an extra premium for cruising in Greece? Is a claim more likely there than in the Channel (surely not)? Are repair costs greater out there (not in my experience)?

Thanks all for the advice.. will give the insurance company a ring on monday morning.

suspect..... the 25 pound fee was just for admin purpose.
