Tide is king around there. Which you probably already know. But it fairly flies out of the Westerschelde and past the Zeebrugge entrance. Until you are off Blankenberge and angling in towards Oostende.
Stargazer is a ‘5 knot boat.’ I passage plan at 7, between Breskens and Zeebrugge. And make very sure to have the tide with me.
Not been into Cadzand. With all the tidal assistance you probably don’t need to stop there. But if you simply want to: When I’ve tacked close in off the entrance, the berths looked quite exposed to swell. That is I seemed to be looking straight at the outer pontoon, as I passed. So probably one to be wary of if the wind is in the north.
John Silver is right. Cadzand is not a harbour you want to go to if there is a sea running, as there is no space inside to maneuver. Dropping sails, preparing lines and fenders has to be done outside. Once inside, it is exposed to winds from NW to NE. I have been there in good weather, and then it is ok, but I wouldn’t want to be there in any onshore blow, and I certainly wouldn’t leave my boat there for any time.
Going from Breskens to Oostende is straightforward, just pay attention as you pass Zeebrugge, monitor port control on ch 71 for any outbound traffic. With wind against tide the sea state off Zeebrugge entrance becomes quite uncomfortable.
