All started innocently enough, down the boat tidy a few bits up etc, then thought might as well go for a spin.
Well lets see how fast it goes! 30.1 knots not to bad and i still have to learn how to use the trim tabs and the leg trim so maybe more to come.
Then at top speed i could hear a noise a high pitched whine like a supercharger, a couple of seconds thinking what the hell is that?, then realised it had overheated:eek:, the noise was the buzzer.
Shut the engine down and it kept on running ( kurdunk kurdunk, silence repeat and so on) like in some old fashioned comedy for about 15/20 seconds, whoops looks like im going to be busy damn.
No worries out with the outboard, will it start will it hell, now getting annoyed.
Main engine cover up looking about think well its overheated so maybe i had better fit that new impeller, pain in the rear to get at im bit of a lump and my chest was not impressed being laid upon for so long, impeller out, nowt wrong with it, then it occurs to me maybe the impeller wasnt getting any water ie the inlet was blocked as i had ran though some rubbish earlier, so trim leg up check vents all clear, but then maybe the rubbish has fallen off?, attempt to start motor, very reluctantly it starts and immediately the engine temp drop down as the cold water circulates and it runs fine.
So gingerly motor back to the marina and it runs same as always and did so the next day.
The reason the outboard wouldnt start, i had forgotten the choke:D

Next day ive got three out of the four anodes to change from magnesium to zinc, wetsuit on (never worn one before, almost made me look slim!) into the medways waters i use the word water loosely, trim tab anodes easy enough, transom one slightly harder as its right on the bottom, all the time trying to keep my face away from the scum on the waters surface that really doesnt smell to nice.
All done back on the platform strip off, wife hosing me down, i can tell you the river water was cold and the hose water was colder, the results werent very impressive:D then i couldnt get the wetsuit of my feet so fell over in the boat wife laughing her head off.

So i have learned three things 1, watch the gauges more closely 2, wetsuits are a lot cheaper than a lift out 3, outboards are quite important!

Going round to the Thames a few years ago had almost reached journies end, when around Richmond, the overheat alarm went off.
Did all usual checks to no avail and finally in desperation, restarted engines and went astern, tesco bag promptly appeared, engine water flow resumed and off we went.
Never had any problem afterwards.
