Bravo 3X exhaust.

I am unfamiliar with Mercruiser drives but I know the exhaust is open unlike the Volvo closed hose. However on running the engine in a test tank there is nothing coming out of the exhaust at the prop' hub. Everything is coming out around the open hose between the leg and the transom plate. I'm thinking that's not right. Once again, this is a 12 year old brand new unit. All advice gratefully received as I'd like to get everything sorted before launching. Thanks.

Sounds quite normal. Purpose it to let exhaust out without the back pressure existing at the prop hub depth.

When rpm are up the flow and the vacuum created behind the spinning prop will take the exhaust that way out.

Yes as ChromeDome says, that is normal. At least on my Bravo 2 it is anyway.

Just out of interest, what engine is the 3X hooked up to?
I'm trying to find a decent used 3X to replace the 2 I currently have
