Ladies and Gents,

My husband and I are returning to Essex early next year. We are also re-locating out boat.

I was looking at Bradwell Marina but I now understand that the power station may be re-built. Does anyone know if this is the case and what, if any effect, this will have on the local boating community? Perhaps at the moment it is just rumour and conjecture. Can anyone local advise regarding this.

Should I move around to Burnham or Benfleet.

Bradwell is scheduled to have a new power station but it is many years off. The marina is very popular and there are not many spaces free. This us because the river is great for sailing and for getting off to the East coast. I can't see that changing. Anyway a marina berth is only an annual contract so you don't have to be there in ten years time. Certainly makes no sense to make a long decision at this stage.

I have put our name on the list for a berth at Bradwell next year. I am not concerned at all about the power station. After all, there is one there already so it won't exactly spoil the view!

The power station is quite a useful landmark! Many locals support a new power station as it will bring employment and prosperity. As to whether we need nuclear power, it's interesting that Chris Huhne, when a simple Lib Dem MP, was totally opposed to nuclear power. When he got a cabinet post for energy and saw the real figures he dropped his opposition.

We will be getting new nuclear stations - it's inevitable. Locally at Bradwell a pressure group called BANNG opposes the new station and is constantly putting out press releases that say the current Bradwell station is creating dangerous pollution despite assurances from the Department of the Environment, Magnox and the Office for Nuclear Regulation saying that there is no danger or threat to marine life. One is led to the conclusion that BANNG believes they are all lying.

Bradwell is a great place to sail from.

BANNG might say " the current Bradwell station is creating dangerous pollution" but my old friend Professor Andy Blowers, who is chairman of BANNG, swims in the Blackwater, so either he is stupid, or does not believe the carp BANNG are putting out

I've had a key since my very first visit, I think, in about 1998.
I'm always faintly surprised to find that it still works.
I hope they don't change the lock as a result of this thread...
