The site hosting the webcams at Bradwell has just been taken down as announced by the hosting company some time ago.

Does anyone know if there will be another site where the cams could be viewed?

The cams were useful sometimes to keep an eye on the boat, especially when a big blow came through.

You were one of the few who could see their boat. I thought they were a waste of money. Decent wifi would be better.

You're absolutely spot on about the WiFi. On a recent visit I couldn't connect to Pontoon C, B, or D. The only one was the Marina Bar, but none of the codes they gave me worked. I was forced to use my EE MyFi dongle, as I was in Woolverstone and I am in my home Marina, North Fambridge.

Why can't Marinas get ths right.....

In Woolverstone, they charge visitors £5 for WiFi and the receptionist suggested I shouldn't bother "cos it's not very good".

If Marinas offer WiFi as part of their advertising, they should make sure it works, is not secured by WAP or WEP and it runs at a usable speed.

Rant over :)

I asked them why they bothered with all these codes. They said it was so the kids in the village didn't nick all the bandwidth with games. Their signal couldn't reach the gate let alone the village!

I found a not bad signal when sitting in the loo in the "tower". Was about the only place I could get the weather forecasts .:D

Because... and from first hand experience... if you don't provide it there are the complainers saying you should get it, then you do get it at the best speed available and it jams up as what little bandwidth there is in rural areas is used up as everyone jumps on, so you charge for it to try and limit it's use to keep it at a reasonable speed for those who do pay, then it's apparently not good enough and you shouldn't advertise you have it. 0_o

It's not strictly the Marina operators fault the likes of BT aren't willing to put in the infrastructure... and as time goes on it's going to be less and less likely they will as the various mobile networks expand 4G and charge accordingly.

Rant over ;)

I don't mind too much if WiFi is not available, my objection is when Marinas use it in their advertising. You may be correct about the Visitors Charge - save the bandwidth for the Berth Holders. A bit devious though. Luckily EE coverage in East Essex is pretty good which allows me good access from Fambridge, however, I assume Yacht Havens Ltd are paying Spectrum WiFi to provide the Marina access and it is just appalling, even on a Monday with virtually no one here. The system here was overhauled recently but it's no better.

Instead of complaining on here I should, and will, draw it to the attention of the Marina Manager, yet again. resolution :)

I was there about a week ago, sat on E pontoon and got a decent strength signal from D pontoon WiFi. But the code came up with 'invalid password'. Seemed straightforward enough to me. Got same result on several devices. But the office said the p'word was correct. Baffling.
Irritating I guess if you're based there. But these days around the E Coast I use an unlocked MiFi currently with a 3-Network top-up SIM, £10 buys a GB for a month and I find is plenty to keep up with email, look at weather sites, check the forum, etc etc. Excellent signal with 3 almost everywhere.

We was on E pontoon this weekend and could not get any internet access at all, to make matters worse our EE phones had very poor signal. I am sure something could be done. Even the passwords seemed too long at around 10 digits. I did politely complain, but was told that as it was free, I could not really moan. Totally unacceptable in my eyes.

I was in Bradwell over the weekend and found 4G on my IPhone which worked very well.

Only had 3G over by St Peters (compulsory walk; orders of SWMBO "You look fat and happy, get walking!).

Didn't see any offers for the wifi.

I'm on O2 which appears to be the only one that works in this area.

Vodaphone had the contract until about 13 years ago. They couldn't be bothered (substitute Anglo Saxon expletive as an alternative for 'bothered' here) to improve the system at a time when I was paying a monthly bill in excess of GBP 5,000 for roaming.

O2 had much better coverage and have benefited accordingly and now, thankfully their roaming charges are much better.

In the loos of the Bradwell Marina Bar/Shower block was the strongest place and it did say 4G on the phone to my astonishment. Internet at speed. Bad news in one way as all my emails were instantly downloaded.
