Bradwell it is then - not a nimby but

Railway Line to Tollesbury and over the Blackwater

I wonder if the line was ever used; after all the plan as I understand it was a ferry across to Bradwell to link up with a railway there - which obviously never happened. So running down to the pier was all a bit pointless. But then I've never understood big business.

There's a shoal patch where the pier used to be and the remains of posts just sticking up at LW springs

Again I THINK that it was for freight only but I may be mistaken... HOWEVER I asked that nice Mr Google (Funny name but a very helpful chap) and he directed me to this Interweb document http://www.tollesbury.org/history/crab_winkle.html..

I can't remember where I read this, but I believe an original grandiose scheme was to build a ferry terminal for the Continental trade at Tollesbury. This was to be additionally served by a small ferry connecting the extended Southminster line at Bradwell.
This may explain why the King's Head at Tollesbury and Swan at Tillingham where such large pubs, out of scale for the local use at the time, but suitable as hotels for the expected passengers.
The same history claimed that the Wickford line was diverted to Burnham, because a railway director wanted access to his yacht.

Bet the price of a berth at Bradwell goes up during construction with all those civil engineers looking for somewhere to kip during the week!

Stuff that, I am off to buy 3 dozen caravans at 200 quid a pop, and rent a low cost field rather than a high cost marina in a high maintenance GRP caravan.
