Bradwell gets it's own RAF Flypast

Dear All,

A date for your Diaries….

Once again a Lancaster Bomber, Spitfire and Hurricane will grace the skies over Bradwell. On the 27th August 2015 RAF Bradwell Bay gets a memorial flypast by the RAF (Exact time of flypast TBA, but it will probably be around midday). The Flypast is to commemorate the 70th year of the airbase being decommissioned and the 121 Service men/women who bravely made the ultimate sacrifice whilst serving there. The Flypast will best be viewed from number 1 runway (which is just along from the war memorial). However, once I know the exact track the RAF will be taking, it’ll also be GREAT to view from the River Blackwater.

• 10:45hrs Event opens to the public
• 11.30hrs Motor Torpedo Boat Exits the marina • 11:45hrs BBQ starts at Marina Bar
• 12:00hrs Motor Torpedo Boat releases Poppy’s • 12:20hrs Motor Torpedo Boat returns to marina • 12:45hrs Gather at flag pole (next to control tower)
o The names of the 121 airmen are read out
o Last post / minutes silence
• 14:10hrs Dakota Flypast
• 14:20hrs Spitfire and Hurricane Flypast • 14:30hrs Event close

No mention of the Lanc.

The Lancaster will not be flying. It has been grounded for repairs after an engine fire earlier this year. The BBMF have been using the Dakota instead.
 
We, in the Lincolnshire branch, get a regular treat during the display season. I think they must use Bourne Wood as a waypoint. Not half a mile from the house. A magnificent site and the roar of the Merlins and Griffons can be heard minutes before...... we are indeed privileged.

Yep, we often watch Hercules pilots using the river Glen to help navigate, the season for airshows seems to get busier each year, we had what sounded like a whole flight of Spitfires fly over us at tree top height a while back. No idea if there are that many Spitfires still flying but they went over us so low and fast I couldn't get outside quick enough and only saw them from behind
 
Hate to be a dampener, but looking like F7 on Thursday


Also, just seen the news that Hawker Hunter crashed onto the A27 whilst performing aerobatics for a show. Don't know if that will have any effect on proceedings

Don't planes fly when it is windy?
Seriously though, Wind Guru only shows maximum gusts of 15 knots during the display time. Where did you get your F 7 info?
 
Hi All, Apologies for not replying sooner.......

Sadly the Lancaster is still out of action having its number 4 engine replaced. The good news is that we are being sent the Dakota in its in place.
We also have a Puma helicopter giving us a flypast., but the flight time is still TBA due to active duty.

Yes the weather forecast is currently rubbish - so lets keep our fingers crossed that it improves. We have already raised £2600 for the RAFBF through poppy sales and donations.

Metcheck.... planes may fly, but anchored in the Wallet in an F7 would be terribly interesting.You would need to nail the cucumber sandwiches to the cockpit table

If you would like view the flypast from your comfort of your own boat. Good shelter can be found to the north of Pewit Island. Or, come up Bradwell creek and pick up a buoy.

As far as I am aware, all berths are now booked in the Marina (but please call in case).

Well, got there about 11.30 with my old dad, his missis and SWMBO. After about half an hour the women decided they were cold so we went to a pub for lunch. Back in time to see the planes, saw the Spit and Hurricane which were good but not the Dakota - did we go home too early? Home just in time to see a Flying Fortress go right over the house - best sight of the day! Oh yes, another Spit went by a few minutes later.
It was a bit raw on the land, didn't see any boats anchored in the Blackwater to view the event, not many out at all today. It would have been much more pleasant if the sun had shone and it was a nice summer day!

As a former crab they're one organisation I support, and I have a bucket of change here for them if I could only get someone to collect it, far too much shrapnel for me to do anything else with so it's either theirs or it'll be going when the British Legion drop off the poppies this year. Don't mind who has it but no way am I even going to try and count it up, they just need to collect and it's theirs
