Hi all A quick leccy question .
The bow thruster has been working ok up to now . Symptons are

Power only ok for 2/3 secs ,even after motoring for an hour , then dies and cuts out .
Iv put drop test on the battery and battery indicates 12.8 no load and still borderline 'good' on drop test.
however 'blipping' the bow thruster on with tester on no load it drops to 6volts . I know the initial load is very high on these things but what do you think ...battery b*ggered ?

Could be low voltage charge to bow battery, resulting in a surface charge, correct voltage but little amphour, how was the load test done? check bow battery voltage and alternator voltage during charge.

Age of battery Atleast 5yo . Doesnt hold power even after been on on shore supply over night .test done with "Clarke" drop tester.
just run engine and at battery 14.1volts . Tun engine off battery indicating 12.5.and steady no load.

Your battery is an ex battery. If it doesn't hold charge and drops to 12.5 from 14.1 straight off charge, tis dead I'm afraid.

thanks for the reply a new battery has solved the problem .....I think ,certainly sounds more healthy .

At 5 years it owes you nothing, buy a new one, monitor that you are keeping it well charged to maximize the new battery life.

Hi Clyst,

I'm considering changing my 2 domestic and one starter batter and boat based in Plymouth.

How good was your deal. Which battery and what price. Did you go by their recommendation or did you choose yourself.

Thanks
