Berthing and Marina manouvering in tight spaces with a single engine was proving to be an absolute nightmare and almost finished of our new found interest before it had begun.
But then - acting on advise from our Tutor- we invested in a Bow Thruster - what a difference! control was so much simpler and consequently our confidence in handling and manouvering increased by the 'boat load'.
Recommend one to all single engine boat owners without hesitation.

Having come from a 37' motor cruiser with two big diesels and a bow thruster, to a 37' sailing boat with just one engine, I totally agree with you!. Whilst we generally get by, pursuading the bows to come through a strong wind/tide can be a nightmare. When our boat comes out at the end of the year, guess what 's the first thing it's going to have fitted!!

Yeah. I often have lots of fun with a single engine and the wind blowing me off the pontoon.

I've learned never to panic. And think ahead.

Or could send him round to you for boat leasons. But we wont go there. If you have not noticed. So far I aint replied. Can well understand the need for bow thrusters on single engined boats. Except Happy's of course.

I'd agree - my current boat would be completely unmanageable in modern marinas w/o a thruster. The combination of a big rig, folding prop and modern hull forms definitely warrant some assistance. I'd gos so far as to say that there are circumstances where we could not get onto our berth without a thruster. When it does all go wrong the scope for a really expensive event is almost without limit..

Jacuzzi? Seriously I've cast envious eyes over one of these. I have a small (26 ft) sailing yacht with a long keel. Allow it to get too much 'side on' to the tide and you don't have a hope of controlling the bow.

I think it's a great idea - gives you much more control over the boat /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I may try fitting a couple of the immersion pumps each side, now that would certainly spin the boat /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
