I have tried to add a photo, but failed as usual.

It is on imgur, but when i preview it to test it just shows the text of the link as opposed to the image ( I have tried Image tags and all sorts) My thoughts are unprintable.

Anyway back to the topic.

Squadron 58 2004. The anchor bow roller no longer goes round and as such it has worn.

Tape measure shows it is about 73mm wide, but until i take it to bits I cant get the rest of the dimensions. The boat is in Mallorca, and I would prefer to take the part down with me.

Does anyone happen to know the correct replacement roller?

Thank you

Jeremy

Nope, but I hope the following helps someone else! :D

Thank you ! how did you do that !
The general principle is that to embed a pic in your post you should pick the straight URL (i.e. "https://i.imgur.com/54qy2cl.jpg", in this case), and enclose it inside the "IMG" tags, i.e.
.
If you just click "Reply with quote" to my previous post, you can see exactly what I wrote.

Btw, funny that you should mention FB, 'cause I totally hate its interface - to the point that I plain refuse to use it.
Sometimes I think that building an interface unattractive for old farts with a bit of IT competence was one of their goals... :ambivalence:

Hi J as another IT numty.
Here’s how I do it with Imgur on an I pad - nearly new Vs

Press / click the imgur icon App thingy

Press “ upload “ on the tool bar on the bottom of the screen

This should take you to a box that says “ all photos “ ( you can press that to go to vids ,albums or what ever btw )

Press a pic and the number 1 attaches on the top RHS of the image .

Press “next “ top RHS

A new box comes up with some more stuff around the pic
On the LHS top press “public “ and choose either “ hidden / public “;————- use hidden to stop public seeing

“Upload “ lights up top RHS

Press - “upload

Bottom RHS toolbar press “ profile “:this takes you to your images saved in imgur .

Select the image by pressing it - the pic

Up pops a tool bar in green at the foot press “ view post “:

Up pops a toolbar in grey at the foot bottom RHS press “ share “

Up pops a box from the iPad a 2 inch sq - with options , like store , print etc
You want the bottom row LHS icon called “ share “

Press “ share “

Then return to the forum and copy by pressing the screen where you want the pic to go - when you see the normal I pad tool bar press “ paste “

In Blue Peter “ here’s one I’ve prepared earlier “ from this afternoon.

None boaty but topical - hope it helps - it’s free just takes time to learn

It's easy to embed the image - I'm using a PC so may be different on a tablet or phone.

Upload an image, then select the image - you should see a screen like this

sDVEIkZ.jpg

Copy the code circled in red, and paste in your message. That's it

Also, at the bottom under SIZES, you can select the size of the image - do this before copying the code.

I doubt you'll find that roller as a catalogue part - FL will likely have had it turned by a plastics shop, or whoever made the s/s part will have and supplied it complete. If it wont spin it might be easier to rebush it crudely than source a new one.

FL have used many s/s suppliers over the years, most recently and best a Polish firm. When your boat was built it was probably barrscourt http://www.barrscourt.com/

If you want to have the part made and take it next time you go, you have your 73mm, and the pin is M16 bolt so a 16mm drilled hole will work because it will come out at 16.1mm. You can guess/scale the remaining dimensions and they're not critical to 0.1mm or anything

Back to topic .
I had bother with bow rollers on my Sunseeker .
1- the edges of the bobbin would chip ,more like 1cm ish dings be missing .Prob with this the chain would jump occasionally and jam , on up hauling.
2- for some un fathomable reason despite lubricant the thing would stop spinning - actually cease up .
Well one assume s the M16 bolk is dimensionsally stable ( heat expansion?) or the actual nylon has shrunk?

One a took it off and with some emery paper filled out the internal Dia to get it spinning again .

The chipped flanges luckily our local chandelier just ordered another .73/75 mm seems standard W , but check the Dia too .
From memory about 8 in the catalogue.

The Oem had a SS tube pressed into the hole to act as an axial —- this one was replaced due to flange wear .
The replacement s went through 2x so total 3 in all , where just a plain hole .

New ( to me boat ) has a pocket anchor and a sturdy SS roller at the sea end of the carrier , so hopefully these nylon bow rollers - can be PITA are a thing of the past .:encouragement:

So some one does metal ones in Italy —- seem more of a last a life time ,fit n forget

Thanks all.

Written to barrscourt.

Pete M also gave me details of a fairline facebook group who may have some suggestions.

Strange to use a custom part - no wonder boats are so expensive!

The roller is damaged by the chain running over it ( which causes no practical issue!) so cant be freed off etc.

There are a few 73mm ones about, so if i dont hear back I will buy one and see how it goes. Knowing it is M16 is useful thanks.

Nothing difficult or expensive to turn out out of Delrin. The cheap moulded ones are nylon which has a habit of swelling and seizing plus wears out quickly. So, in effect all good ones are "custom" in that they are made individually.

probably better to use acetal (teflon) if you can as it is naturally lubricated and doesn't absorb water and expand like nylon

I did mine with ertalon which by googling it is the same as the Nylon 6 or 66 that JFM recommends above.
Still rolling and doing it's thing but it's only 3yrs and max a couple of hundred ups and downs.

Was v.easy to machine (if you avoided getting slaughtered by the cutoffs which cut like razors!)

V,

Remove it and take it to Kinza Nautic in son Bugadellas. They can make you one out of nylon or bronze. A
Bronze one costs more but it’s done for life.
