Chatting to POH at the laying down, it was suggested that a change to the the well established Ostende weekend might go down well, and that Boulogne (at a similar distance for your ECF folk) could work well, allowing some SCF peeps to attend more easily also...

Weekend of 4/5 July is London trip
I cant do 23/7 - 3/8.

So, thoughts and date suggestions if interested ?

Unsurprisingly, I like the idea!..... Alan and I felt that it might reinvigorate the early enthusiasm we had in the Oostende trips.... I'll be there (date permitting), rather like the Queensborough trip, all dependent upon having Phoenix sufficiently far through refit to be ready for the trip!

Late July isn't good for me, or the start of Aug, as we've bitten the bullet and decided to take a couple fo weeks visiting my parents in the sun.... but as ever with ECF events, the date will be what the date is! :D

The Oostende vor Anker 2015 will be a better venue, what is happening in Boulogne

But we only came back fom Boulogne a few weeks ago!

We liked the place - friendly; nice walks including the old town on the hill already mentioned; handy supermarket; really impressive street planting by the local council; even the bird infested derelict ferry quays had a certain Gothic charm! - so would be happy to go back.

There are some fabulous restaurants in Boulogne, but the best are not necessarily in the Old Town, which are often aimed at the 'Rost Bifs' or tourists. Personally I favour 'Le Doyen' which is a traditional husband cook, wife waitress. And if they run out of a menu item they will borrow the fresh ingredients from next door and vice versa. It is located in the main square downtown near the really old church down a lane at the back of the square behind all the outside eateries fronting the square. They have an upstairs that they open up when crowded on a Saturday night and could possibly be used for a function. Their seafood is incredibly good, as it should be in a fishing port such as Boulogne.

I tend to avoid Boulogne in July and August as it is full of boats and campervans. But in May or September I have my pick of pontoons in the Marina.
