Bought Beneteau Antares 30 Fly - Seamotion

View attachment 43606

Hi Anders, I have finally fitted my folding cockpit table. Sorry the photo isn't that great. Next job is fitting 2 extra speakers to the flybridge and the LED's in the cockpit. I also need to Semco all the deck wooden strips.

That looks very neat, a cockpit table is on the list of winter jobs for my Antares 30. Where did you get the table and base, and where do you store them when underway?

I've just finished my first trip in an Antares 30, nothing particularly intrepid, just a few days cruising around the Western Solent. But overall I'm very pleased with the boat and her capabilities. The single engine makes for decent fuel economy, and having a stern and bow thruster gives a confidence boosting level of manoeuvrability! Even in gusty conditions she's easy to slot stern first into tight spaces and she'll spin in virtually her own length. I'm impressed with the liveability, helm visibility and instrumentation layout is excellent, the heads are useable by non gymnasts, there's adequate storage, you can prepare decent meals at anchor, and the general layout successfully combines practicality with sociability.

However no boat's perfect and the evidence is there that the Antares 30 is built to a very strict budget. The surveyor said he's now seen several with crazing around the windlass plinth so some kind of snubber arrangement when anchoring would make sense. On mine there's also a hull void, either Beneteau didn't spot it during the build or they did but the price doesn't allow for much re-work. The seacocks meet CE standards, but CE standards by all accounts are pretty minimal. And the foredeck cushion clips are secured with self tappers straight into the balsa cored deck, so water ingress and a rotten core is virtually guaranteed without some remedial work.

If that sounds critical it's not meant to be, generally speaking Beneteau have spent the money where I'd want them to, with a strong hull and a simple fit out rather than too many glitzy fripperies that'll become a mildewed money pit. So yes, she's a smashing boat that I'm enjoying greatly.

Enjoying my boat, finished Day skipper practical last weekend but still got to do theory. Done about 50 hours in seven weeks, but training course clocked up a good few hours.

She handles well, has decent living space and as Paul said reasonable economy.

I've got a cockpit table ready to fit, bought mine from KJ Howells who supply pedestal.

So who was that going up the Beaulieu river Saturday afternoon then in their Antares 30!? We were in a 62ft Yacht passing on our way out after a lunch at Bucklers hard

That was me :D

Had mum and aunt on board for first time (and Dad who's regular crew), we'd eaten on board at East Cowes and went up Beaulieu for a look see. Despite mum giving me grief at the lack of photos I've taken over the past few weeks, she took constant prompting to take some on her Cannon EOS fancy camera. Easy to forget when you're taking the scenery in with your own eyes.

Our Beneteau Antares 30 Flybridge is proving to one of the best boats we have ever owned out of fourteen!
We are using it in All weathers, out on Flybridge on most trips, feels like 40 footer !
Great economy very quiet warm wonderful boat!

Direct drive

Hi, sorry to jump into the thread. On the Antares 30 is there a flexible coupling between the gearbox and prop shaft?

Looking at the drive shaft it is directly connected from the automatic fluid gear box direct to the prop with a gland water cooled unit out the hull mounted on a p unit. Pictures can be viewed of the underneath of the hull on Anders forum called Beneteau antares Questions worth a look at as his blog is one that I followed before I bought. Now Anders boat is moored only 5 boats away and we are now great friends

many thanks!! I'm buying a Merry Fisher 10 which is very very similar. I had it surveyed and the Surveyor suggested exploring a flexible coupling to protect the gearbox ie if you hit something that stops the prop suddenly then the coupling would fail rather than the gearbox. I noticed how similar the MF10 and the antares are ie single d6 engine so wondered if a flexible couplingwas fitted on the antares. By the sounds of it there isn't one thanks.

Great thanks. Have seen the photo on the other thread thanks. Having a stern thruster fitted to the merryfisher 10 so have used the information and photos to help!! Thanks again!

Bought new Antares 30 from Dickies at 2013 Boat show
Followed the blog on Antares 30 questions - great source of information-- thanks
Had Osmotech at Hamble point fit stern thruster and CopperCoat the hull plus other fittings brilliant company very professional.
Went to Raymarine demo suite to get advice on radar and chartplotters - found out that new lighthouse software is very advanced - links up to 8 iPads and iPhones on board!
Looking forward to using the new boat
Thanks for all advice on this site from Antares users
Will log our experiences - have 6 crew (sons & son-in-laws) + wives grandchildren! fully trained and waiting to go out so expect to use the boat in all weathers.

Two years on
Our Beneteau Antares 30 Flybridge has now completed 143 hours
Great boat
Brilliant for a family had lots of fun
Beneteau have more than lived up to their reputation !
Ancasta after sales service has been second to none and we have been very pleased with our Volvo engine
Fuel consumption has been excellent when we keep to a sensible cruising speed
Our boat was fitted with full rear enclosure supplied by N V boat covers, also we had a NV cover fitted on Flybridge very good quality and it has proved a must as we can sit out in the rear deck in comfort even on cold days. The arrangement of the rear enclosure is excellent and most important vision from helm is not impeded when down, very quick and easy to roll up.
The boats handles well in all weathers and gives the feeling of a much larger boat.
