So, it wasn’t the decision of the AA man but from head office.... I think that AA policy changes according to events, for example, I remember when they announced that they would not attend to flat batteries for unlimited times...Scousers would get AA instead of a new battery, and just call them up every time they wanted to start the car. So everyone suffers....perhaps there has been a lot of chancers on the road doing dodgy business with dodgy trailers...

I am pretty sure I am correct - it is a criminal offence for anyone to sell an unroadworthy car or trailer and I don't think not knowing is a good excuse.

But if I were to sell you something in good faith and it was found to have a significant defect I would expect to reimburse you for the cost. Whether that would apply to a trailer sold along with the boat is a somewhat different matter but I would probably still consider myself liable for the repair costs if not the AA costs.

I agree that the AA position is a little unfair. I think the majority of times the AA are called out there is a significant degree of fault with the driver (e.g. someone putting petrol in a diesel car) but we still expect them to recover the vehicle even when we are largely responsible for the problem.

There are alternatives out there and AA is pretty expensive!
 
great boat. I had one of these with a 50. Used to take to Spain every summer.
Oodles of fun with her.

Bow is so light and buoyant, there is no fear of burying the bow in a wave or swell.

Yes due dilegence is important but in reality you can only see what you can see.

Here is the reality rather than the theory:

1) You load your car with, Trolly Jack, Ropes, Number Plate, Light Board, Bearings, Many tools, Muffs etc etc
2) You Drive 200 miles to look at/Get the boat
3) You meet the owner who is a lovely chap and very genuine. the boat is in a very small garden with workman building a decking all around
4) You look at the engine, You start the Engine, You run the engine best you can and decide it is ok
5) You look the boat over and generally it is very good and he is giving you a lot of ancillary stuff
6) You look the trailer over which has one wheel against the house wall. The house is in a very small col de sac. The trailer actually looks very good better than I expected.
7) There is no way you can see the bit that eventually broke and its condition even if it was in open space.
8) You agree you will buy it and you try to pay him the money on the Phone via the Barclays App. The Signal is bad so you connect to his wifi. The app says the money has gone through
9) He does not get the money in his account so you try again. The app says I have reached my daily limit and to cut this whole paying thing short it takes over 1 hour to talk to Barclays to get them to release the funds. You would not believe the inane questions I was asked.................. Eventually while apologising profusely they clear the payment and the chap instantly gets the money
10) This was all done outside in the baking hot sun
11) You secure the boat for travel
12) You put anything in the car that could blow off
13) You are staying on a camp site so as not to have to drive the whole way home
14) You go about 10 miles and the wheel falls off
13) You Phone the AA and they were on this occassion terrible. The AA dispatch the Police because you are in a quite dangerous place
14) After about 45 mins in the Dangerous Place the Police call you and ask if you are still in a dangerous place. Well yes is my answer. the dispatcher ask me if I can move the whole lot to a not dangerous place because they have not units to attend............. Great isnt it.
15) After about 5 hours the AA turn up in a flat bed relay truck and the Driver looks at the trailer and tells me the wheel has broken off (No Sh*t Sherlock I think). He has no real clue how to get it on his flat bed. He looks about 20 yrs old and tells me he has worked for the AA for 3 months and this is his first trailer recovery. I suggest a method and he informs me he has no Jack !!!!!!!!!!. He is not aware that I am being charged £954 for this service !!!!!!!!!!
16) There is loads more but hey ho

So Due dilegenge are words offten used by people who sit in an office very often not knowing one end of a screw driver from the other. The reality is very far off this I am affraid.

For Information I am a Cahartered Quantity Surveyor 59 years old who does know one end of a Screw Driver from the other and very much live in the real world.

You are quite correct. It was actually far better than I expected for a 2004 boat................ What broke could not bee seen by anyone duely dillegent or otherwise

Only if the motor's set two holes too low like this one. If at correct height the fin shouldn't be in the main water flow causing drag.

Used to get 29kn out of mine (DF50/14p Solas) with fin. Not bad.SolasProp_1.jpgDF50speed_copy_800x597.png

The huge forward sun deck presents a design compromise on this size boat like some smaller ribs, Grand, Brig etc. All the weight is to the stern making it harder to get out of the hole and creating a huge wake at displacement. I was the biggest skeptic of doel fins but absolutely essential on this craft, especially if two are at the helm.

P.S. Autow Ltd (aka Peak Dynamics) have the axle dimensions for your Bramber and can knock a new one up in under two weeks. Reasonably priced.

Yes indeed I have bought Bella. And thanks for the heads up on Autow. I have just ordered an axel. I fear the delivery time might be a while.... But it is silent on that on their website and they seem not to answer their phone which is another feature of modern life it seems

Apart from the wheel etc It looks to be a very nice boat and I got a lot of extras

How do people sell MOT failures then............... Happens all the time they just Put MOT failure in the Description............. I think your statement is incorrect

You are correct but I will be keeping my Rib. In fact the 4.5 m Rib I have is in my view the best of all my boats. Lets see if this one can surpass it. Once of course I can get it on the water

Like you you mean?

Should take all of 2 minutes checking to discover that what I say is correct. The relevant section of the Road Traffic Act applies to anyone selling a car or trailer in UK not just trade sales.

But hey - don't let the facts get in the way....

So as I said how do people legitimately sell MOT failures..................... Go on have a go at answering that one....... Or you can just ignore it I suppose
