Hi all,
I have been a member of this forum for a few years, and have really enjoyed the banter and advice given. I have moved up from a single Chaparal to my first ‘big boat’ (big to me).

After looking at 4 other SC35’s around the country and a couple of Prestigue 38s - I ended up buying one in my local marina ! it’s a 2013 with 250hrs, generator, bow and stern thrusters - a great spec, Sea trail and engine survey done by the local Volvo dealer with no issues, lift out and survey done yesterday - a few minor items (gas hose out of date, plastic lid on water sump broken and macerator had 1 bolt missing) all small items easily fixed so should be completing next Week ?

Boat is in up north (Pwhelli) so no transport costs and we are looking forward to many hours of fun ?, hopefully first trip out next week

Thanks for all the info

Congratulations on the new boat.

By the way the date printed on an orange gas hose is its date of manufacture.
There is no expiry date as such.

Congrats on the new boat. You know you're on the wrong side of the Lynn though. All the action is on the other side where the plunder is kept :encouragement:

The calor gas distributor I use near Reading told me 5 years from the date marked !

However it is possible to test the hose by bending it . Any visible sign of cracking with the hose stretched by bending it indicates perishing and the hose should be replaced.

In the boat gas locker there is usually no exposure to UV light which would be the main cause of deterioration of the hose.

This was explained to me by a marine surveyor who also does Boat Safety Scheme inspections.

I appreciate a new hose is cheap but replacement 5 years after the date of manufacture is not essential or mandatory.

Once the surveyor has flagged it then you’re obligated to do it, especially on something as risky as a gas hose.
Congratulations Flyingspanner:encouragement:

A guy gets a new boat and we’re more interested in a hose:disgust:

No, I'm more concerned he's on the wrong side of the Llyn. Makes it a bit far to buddy up for a funbox raid. Maybe he can meet at a halfway point and stand us to a obligatory round and several more at Ty Coch while we toast his new boat come spring. I'll bring the mob and other volunteers with. :D

Hi all - I bought the SC35 in the end, the surveyor marked it as an ‘A’ on the survey so a repair ASAP, There are plenty of gas register places to get a new hose fitted on the ‘better side of the Llyn’ - BruceK definitely on for a meet up at Ty Coch, I would also like to visit Conway next year as well
