Bought a motor on Saturday...

Since this is the Thames forum, not the Lounge, and my sig shows a link to my boat building project, I figured that most peeps would know what I'm talking about...

To me a car is a car. A 'motor' is not a car.

Richmond, near Ham House. Nice wide slipway, and hopefully no traffic early in the morning.

Got an Evinrude E-Tec 60, overpowered for the Thames, but not for future plans...

Two week's time, if all goes to plan...

Not trying to tell you how to suck eggs but that slipway has no get out plans if it all goes tits up and you have the tide to deal with . I would launch a new build on the non tidal first with lots of places to tie up and help is close to hand . Bridge marine at walton has a slip and although you may have to pay a couple of quid its a much safer option even if its just to check every thing out or there is a free slip on the other side there but at least you can run to three marinas and loads of moorings if things dont go to plan .
I launched the runabout without thinking about all these things and although all went well i wont make that mistake again just incase they dont .

Valid point. The reason for launching on the tidal part is not having a license for the non-tidal, and not willing to buy one (apart from a visitor's license) for the limited use I will have there.

If I can launch non-tidal without a license, then I'll consider it, but otherwise will try for launch/recovery while the Richmond barrier is closed.

Fair enough , i would still buy a day license and launch closer to a marina though . Will there be others with boats there that you know ?
I might try and nip down myself /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Tell me more... Can I launch non-tidal, and then buy a license as and when I have to go through a lock? If so, that's easy. If not, then where do I get a license from (other than writing to EA)?

Our previous boat we would launch tidal and buy a license at Teddington... But that's an inflatable...

Why bother if he is not going to be on the Thames much . He can buy up 15 ? day licenses . If he buys a full year he will also have to produce a safety cert which i assume he already has /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I would just stop off at a lock and buy a day license , it's as easy as that .
