Bottom scrub recommendation

Earlier this week I used Bosham Quay in Chichester Harbour to dry out and pressure wash the bottom of Galadriel. I'm very glad I did. What had attracted me to use Bosham was that working on and off the boat onto a quay proved to be much easier than up and down a ladder against the piles at Itchenor. But the real bonus was that included in the price was the use of their pressure washer, not the type of little pressure washer you and I own but a full on, brace yourself POWER washer. This had two benefits, I did not have to cart a load of gear, extension leads and hoses etc to the site and the supplied pressure washer had the power which I needed to remove the excessive weed growth which had accumulated over the winter. I had never seen so much weed on the bottom and believe this would be the result of the amount of rain we had last autumn, diluting the salt water in the marina and the amount of additional chemicals washed off the fields in that period.

One other recommendation, I soaked the prop and hub in brick cleaner for around 30mins, the barnacles then just wiped off and I lightly polished the prop with a fine scotch bright type pad, to a shine.

I wish I knew that before getting the yard to pressure wash the Prospective new purchase while she was dried out for survey, it's something I could have easily done myself and saved more than a few bob

Ah one of the best kept secrets on the Solent is out! Mate of mine berthed adjacent goes there and does exactly that at least once a season. Swears by it. I plan to take T4 there and do exactly the same, she seriously needs her bottom scrubbed, only making 3 knots at best. Don't spose they would let you whack a quick coat of anti-foul around the waterline whilst there?

I was going to do my annual pressure wash over in Cherbourg this week when I replaced the cutlass bearing but power and water have been removed from the drying slip, due to new EC pollution regs.
Luckily the hull was almost clear of weed and no Barnacles at all. I put it down to spending 3 months away in salt water last year, whereas when on my mooring it is 50/50 salt and fresh.

Same setup as Hardway Sailing Club which I used twice last year. You don't have to be a member and as long as there is room on their grids they let you use the facilities.
