Bosun\'s Chair

MMnnn... how to put this politely?? My husband is, shall we say, a little on the large size(!) and has outgrown our current bosun's chair. Its a basic dacron type sling with narrow leg straps that seem to constantly threaten to castrate him. Being happy in our marriage(!) I'd like to buy him a more comfortable model to ensure his future health ....and safety. Any suggestions. Thought that the type with a wooden seat may work better, what do you think ?

Re: Bosun\'s Chair

Take your current seat to local sailmakers, and either get them to make one a bit *bigger*, or to let a panel or two into your current one.
Alternative is to volunteer to go up the mast yourself, which may be safer, errr, as you prob dont have the same mass to be swinging about on the top of an aluminium stick.

Re: Bosun\'s Chair

I have one of the sort with a wooden seat..... works well, but needs a high back, otherwise its not very comfortable, and feels bit vulnerable... and also needs good leg straps to avoid the feeling that you are going to slip out forwards all the time.... otherwise good option...

Re: Bosun\'s Chair

For safety a climber's or caver's harness is best. For comfort the old plank type of bosun's chair is hard to beat.

Re: Bosun\'s Chair

or get him to go up and down several times a day. Is he pulling himself up, a la the Topclimber, or are you winching him?
