Hi.
Perking 4\236 m lowlife has a borg warner 2.1 reduction hydrolic gearbox is leaking hydrogen oil from front bell housing area. Trying to remove gearbox to get repaired. Boat in water .plan was to disconnect shaft coupling.slid shaft back then remove gearbox.
As usual failed on first hurdle. Tried to undo 4 coupling bolts and studs all came loose.so need to cut studs. However when removed will I be able to change studs from coupling easy. Shaft dia is 50mm.
Any advice appreciated on possible leak and coupling design.
Thanks

I can't answer your question, exactly, as when I had to do my 1:1 version (on the back of a Perkins T6.354) my coupling had bolts and nuts, not studs.

Perhaps if you slacken off all 4 fixings, then move the shaft back as far as it will go, then undo the remaining threads...

cannot answer either, but when I removed my gbox (TwinDisk) on the water, I needed circa 80mm clearance to pull the box back out of the spline. Do you have that sort of distance? looks a bit tight down there!

I should add, there is 2 seals around the oil pump on the front of the box, one lip seal round the shaft, one giant square section o ring.

Your leak will be there.

ASAP sell a Driveforce branded overhaul kitkat I am dubious about the quality.

It's a perfectly diyable fix.

If you have access to a big enough lathe you can run it up to test it.

Thanks for the reply. It is my friends boat. He was unaware of the advice you can get on here.
The nuts won't undo.the studs are turning. I think he has to cut them and separate coupling and box. Remove box. Then get coupling off shaft. To replace studs.does this sound a plan.
Thanks

Is he certain the studs that are turning are not in fact bolts either the heads hidden inside what looks to be an ali hub?
No not at all. but how would you tighten them initially ?. I would have cut them but Guy(the pirate) went for a cautious approach. surely you can take the coupling to pieces to either hold bolts or fit new studs.
