Off work furloughed at the moment, and was just browsing some websites for fun/interest (not really buying unless tonight is VERY kind to me...) and realised I don't LIKE the look of a lot of modern boats.

Looked at Cranchi, Windy (both in my opinion gorgeous boats) and realised I don't like the way the new ones look from outside.

Yes the interiors are lovely, and the helm stations have improved loads..... but the way a Cranchi offshore 42 or similar from the late 90's and into the early 2000's looked is just so much sexier than their current boats.....

take a look at this......

does that not look better than this......

I am sure the new ones are better boats - but I dunno, they just aren't as "pretty".

I mean - this is just boat porn.....

Or is it just me?

I'm not sure it's just the colour. I don't like all these odd shaped windows. They are all at it, SunPrinFair and all that lot just seem to shape windows to get max area (more light - I get it) but they then are weird shapes.

Smooth, sleek lines (perhaps not so much on Flybridges I get that), decent well shaped windows etc... is it all too much to ask?

The colours - I just dont' think a navy hull with white can be beaten, but I get once a boat gets old, wrapping is often the only way to restore a faded gel.

Most new boats, especially the ones with those ridiculous wrong way round bows and the ones where the designer thought up the idea while sitting in his bath ... are all chasing the 'Ugly Boat Of The Year Award'!
Don't get me started on those new large Princesses and Jeanneaus with the retrousse windscreens! The magazines gush about them and they're hideous and yes, I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder ... it's my eye and my comment!

That new cranchi is pretty ugly, but I think the new windys look nice still.

BTW - in case there are points going for spot the location, that cranchi in the top photo is anchored just outside the portals vells marina in majorca.

I agree. One of the main reasons I plan to keep my 2003 Cranchi is I love the lines. Modern but not square. 2nd reason is the excellent engine bay access. Currently have a few bits off to change exhaust manifold gaskets and it's honestly not a bother (still have to put it all back together, though)

I can stand almost anything on a boat, except sharp furniture. Luckily I heard they are on the way out

Couldn't agree more. When we started on our boating journey we hired a boat on the Shannon to see whether we were compatible with the concept. It was originaly to be a Broom 29 but then we were upgraded to this:- Horizon 1 Boat | Overview & Features | Le Boat

For the whole holiday we were convinced we were in the ugliest boat on the river, until the last day when it's big brother turned up in our harbour :- Horizon 4 | Canal and River Boats | Le Boat

Fortunately we weren't put off and now own a strikingly beautiful Princess 420. Classic shape, which in my mind wil not fade or go out of fashion

Yup, those are pretty ugly - and pointless - if you are going to build a "second storey" why not make it bigger and have some accommodation space - all they have done is added height at the back, and the whole design isn't cohesive.

I certainly don’t want to endorse Le Boat but the design has to be entirely functional. The maximum accommodation with the easiest to service and clean, and the biggest possible flybridge while being able to (just) get under a French canal bridge

Those Leboats look like an axopar (cabin version) ...........ducks for cover

Well no, I wouldn't say no... but secretly I might say "Yeuch"

If I had that much money I really don't think I could spend it on something that butt ugly

Gotta say their V40 is a pretty thing tho... that looks quite nice.

Some of the rest of the range looks like it was drawn by a guy who broke into the office whilst very very drunk.....

No offence - Perhaps from a practicality point of view it works - but from a looks point of view.... Hmm!

that x95 is horrendous - you can see why they've done it as it maximises living space - but it really is to the detriment of looks.

It reminds me of this trip boat that runs out of santa ponsa in mallorca

Why not just build a cube then - max living space - just a floating box!!

Make the toys look nice, and make it look like an apartment... on the sea!
