I gather the locals in Ramsgate refer to the Cutter based there as "The Eternal Flame"--------'cos it never goes out!
What is to know is the identity and prosecution of the two people attempting to steal a trawler in order to make a bundle of money smuggling illegal immigrants across the channel.
Its kinda up there with 'blindingly obvious' to most people......
With the greatest of respect -you have the wrong end of the stick. You said they were stealing for people "who knew nothing about trawlers". I pointed out that they did not need to know much. (Just steer the thing along the coast & aim north). What else do they need to know. ( Unless they were going fishing)That was my point--- Cannot have been that "obvious" because you missed it
Well it seems clear that its not like twocking a car..... Some knowledge of stuff like 'starting the engine' is necessary, most illegals are hardly likely to be informed. So, someone with that knowledge is trying to nick the boat and charge them big wonga for the trip.......
Probably enough people who have some basic knowledge of fishing boats and the like, maybe marine engineers, casual crew etc who could start the engine, turn on lights, instruments, pilot it somewhere familiar. To save you chaps looking. I will repeat my post #49.
French police say they have stopped 14 migrants from crossing the Channel on a stolen fishing trawler after they were found in the port of Boulogne.
A local prosecutor told AFP that police were called when "those seeking to help them on their way" were seen breaking into a boat on the French coast.
The migrants, including a mother and two children, said they came from Iraq.
The authorities are still looking for two people they suspect of being people smugglers.
Being handy with spanners doesnt really give the skill set needed to nick a fishing boat though.....in my opinion.......
