Border Force Craft

Most of the refugees nearly all, do stay in the first safe country. A few don’t... I think the thought behind it is that if you have already faced death a few times on a long journey, a few more miles to fix the remaining few problems is acceptable. In surveys, the driver isn’t usually the benefit system, but knowing the language, having friends or family in the destination country already, and being a victim of racism or some other problem like overcrowded refugee camps in the intermediate country.

Ahh I see the confusion.... four OPV's that's truly a force to be reckoned with. In the 70's there were four frigates based in Rosyth alone, not to mention 40 or 50 old school minesweepers.

Good start. Add to that another one, plus one on sea trials entering service, two fitting out and one in early build. Plus of course as you mention, 13 mine clearance vessels, 16 Archer class patrol vessels in home waters and the Border Force Ribs I already mentioned.........

The English Channel is not very big. Really.

Being wealthy doesn't stop you being a refugee. They are often the ones who are seen as being the biggest threat to murderous regimes as they often have influence. So they are targeted and have no option but to escape.

Hitler didn't persecute the Jews because they were poor.

But the Iranians are hardly likely to suffer persecution in France are they.

French police say they have stopped 14 migrants from crossing the Channel on a stolen fishing trawler after they were found in the port of Boulogne.

A local prosecutor told AFP that police were called when "those seeking to help them on their way" were seen breaking into a boat on the French coast.

The migrants, including a mother and two children, said they came from Iraq.

The authorities are still looking for two people they suspect of being people smugglers.

Ooer.......

It is very interesting that , we assume that it is organised criminal gangs , there is a lot of activists from, all over Europe in Calais helping the Refugees there , with food and clothing , and perhaps stealing and organizing small ribs,
Also those coming from Turkey to the Greek Islands were using very small outboards as they are expensive, some of the inflatables had powerful outboards on the dinghies from the Channel crossings .
It seems odd that smugglers would buy such an expensive piece of equipment to then lose it.
It is also well documented that all refugees are told to throw away their identities so that they can claim they came from a war environment to improve their asylum chances.
Human misery is never a pleasant thing , but to sort it out at source were possible is better than these poor souls risking their lifes to get to Birmingham!! is this better for them

Is it harder to obtain work illegally in France than it is in the UK?
Is that why they do not stop in France (other than the place being full of french of course). One expects that there are as many of their own race/religion there than there is here, so finding friends/support should be just as easy. It should be easier to move from country to country in emergency
Surely the French welfare is every bit as good as in the UK - if they can get into the system in the first place.
So why is Birmingham, Luton & Bradford really so attractive?

Could be so as I believe ID cards are compulsory in France and perhaps more questions are asked. Also are police on the continent not regularly armed?

At least we now have a idea where a good number of the flubbers and outboards stolen in the UK may have ended up.

Do we? Any evidence for this apart from your assumptions?

The Iranian refugees have money. They arrived in Europe on standard airline flights. It's said that four people in an inflatable have paid £24,000 to the fixers to supply all the stuff. Easily enough money to buy the boat and engine on the legitimate market and not have to traffic in ripped off stuff from Chichester.

The Iraqis and Africans are often completely different. They often have next to nothing, so attempting to steal a trawler from Boulogne seems like a possible way to join in the cross channel attempts.

It would be interesting to know, then, who was attempting to steal a trawler on behalf of people who know nothing about trawlers........

.

Why not just come over here on a fortnight's holiday via air & not go home?
Then just go paddling on the beach near Dover & look a bit lost & cold.
Poke the kids in the ribs so they start grizzling & the snowflakes will be all over them.
Borrow a few kids from your mates already here & you get a bigger council house & extra welfare along with it.

What is there to know ? unless of course they want to get a few kgs of crabs or pollack on the way over.
I do not expect them to be much worried about whether it should be red or green over white while they are doing it

What is to know is the identity and prosecution of the two people attempting to steal a trawler in order to make a bundle of money smuggling illegal immigrants across the channel.

Its kinda up there with 'blindingly obvious' to most people......
