As the unelected BB master of this subject I say without fear of contradiction that the British Wine and Beer co in Cherbourg are hard to beat. They are in the supermarket complex by the inner basin, which now has visitors pontoons to allow easy loading. It's so close you could fill up your trolley and tip it onto the deck!!

To see their current prices go to www.wineandbeer.co.uk. The range of wines in the supermarket is large but watch out for the quality!!! I always buy a good selection and try it on the boat before returning to purchase what I want.

So if you see me in my cockpit with a dozen or so opened bottles it's all down to research!! Someone has to do it!!

The marina also has a wine shop with a good selection which tends to be better quality and they deliver to your boat, which does make life easier!! Happy shopping!

Cheapest weve found is in Ostend - you have to order via the marina office and they deliver direct to the boat - all tobacco & alchohol is tax free for consumption on board only. Fill up for the year!

There's a place in St Vaast - forget the name (Gosselin?) - who have a great selection as well as food and will also deliver to the boat which takes a lot of the hassle out of it. Dont know about the prices, though
