Hi everyone, I am looking for a new or second hand end for a Proctor boom 7cm diameter - does anyone have any suggestions?
Cheers

Try Sailspar; they are incredibly helpful and have various end fittings, if they can't help but know someone who can, I'm sure they will put you on to them.

01206 251348 No connection.

BTW I know Selden pretend to do Proctor stuff, but having tried to buy a new rig from them and finding myself unable to overcome their disinterest, I can only say they are the exact opposite of all I say about Sailspar, who IMO remain your best hope !

Many Thanks, I will give them a try later - it's always good to have recomendations.

If you Google for the Chandlery Barge at Bursledon they will possibly have some in their aladdin's cave there.
Which end fitting do you need mainsheet end or gooseneck? Proctors used to have a metal label stamped to identify the type or section, that may help with identification if you have one.

If Sailspar can help you will be very lucky! This type of fitting is very old and not made for many years, I guess someone like Sailspar or Allspars (Plymouth) may take in an old boom to make a new one. The other thing to consider is one of the many boat jumbles, many people have bins of all sorts of odd bits, you may just be lucky!

If you post a photo here of the exact bit your after i might have one that will fit.

Hi, thanks, the picture shows the outboard end that I need. The outside diameter is 8cm and as you can see I have moved the boom end around 90 degrees to make it uesable.

Many Thanks

Hi, thanks for the reply. I have tried Sailspar and Allspars with no luck. I wouldn't want to buy a new boom just to repair the toping lift attachment - if need be I will make a replacement.

Cheers

Boom end fitting

Presumably the lugs for attachment of topping lift and or mainsheet have failed. That may not be a reason to replace the fitting. If you can remove the fitting from the boom which is not always easy. You could drill a hole in the middle of the end a fit a stainless steel strap with a hole in each end for main sheet and topping lift.
Or if the boom is long enough just screw saddles top and bottom of the boom. Use long screws that go through both saddles. (a saddle is a loop of SS with a screw hole in each end and come in various sizes.)
Or a saddle on the end of the boom fitting or a purpose built SS claw for the main sheet.
Other alternatives are a strap of webbing going around the boom for the main sheet. and possibly using same for topping lift.
Have a look at other boats and see how main sheet and topping lift attach to the boom. It doesn't have to be the same as original. good luck olewill
